I have to admit, I adore longer hair. Playing with it, running my hands through it...having fall over our faces...yummy. On women, it really depends on the facial shape, I find. And their cheekbones. If you've got the angles for shorter hair, do it! Rock it! On men, it's just the simple fact that I don't like crew cuts. Oh, or those really silly turned-up-bang kind of thing. Length gives you options. As for mine...right now it's a little below my bra strap. I wash it twice a week with a sulphite-free hair shampoo bar, rinse with cider vinegar. I do a warm herb-infused oil treatment an hour before hand. I get my hair thinned three times a year (or the headaches are deadly), and I trim the ends every 6 months. I do dye my hair twice a year (once in the late spring, once in the winter), with no-ammonia products. Just to give my hair a bit more dimension. I do not heat style. And I comb my hair twice a day: morning to braid, and night to unwind.
