FR -

From Politico:

quote:

GOP to make hay in May over gas

Republicans are getting ready to capitalize on record prices at the pump with a May focus on oil and gasoline.

The government shutdown battle put the issue on the back burner even though prices at the pump have been rising steadily since February. Now, with President Barack Obama already on the defensive, the GOP is ready to pounce.

House Republicans are planning bill introductions, hearings, markups and floor votes on legislation aimed at expanding domestic oil production in response to high gasoline prices. The plain truth that there is realistically nothing Congress can do in the short- or mid-term to affect gas prices won’t get in the way of both parties trying to score political points by complaining the other is not addressing the problem.

"The White House and the rest of the Democrats who run Washington are terrified about the political impact of gas prices, because many of their policies — like the national energy tax — are explicitly designed to raise energy prices,” said Michael Steel, spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner.

Again, leftists have been battling against our ability to access cheap plentiful energy for decades, and the battle is continuing to this day.

EXAMPLE:

quote:

Clinton Facing Heat on Oil Sands Pipeline

Battle lines have been hardening over the proposed Keystone XL pipeline over the last couple of weeks. The pipeline, which will stretch from Alberta in Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast, would nearly double the United States’ capacity to import oil made from Canadian oil sands. Canadian oil sands are a plentiful and secure source of oil, but the extraction process is high in carbon dioxide emissions and takes a toll on pristine Canadian forest ecosystems.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will soon have to decide whether to allow the pipeline construction to proceed next year, and the State Department is -– once again -– studying the potential environmental impact. Environmental groups and a host of government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Energy Department, had judged an earlier evaluation inadequate.

The heat is on Mrs. Clinton as she tries to balance competing demands. At an event in San Francisco last month, she implied that she was looking favorably on the proposal, although the department’s environmental analysis is continuing. This is what she said: “We’ve not yet signed off on it. But we are inclined to do so, and we are for several reasons -– going back to one of your original questions –- we’re either going to be dependent on dirty oil from the gulf or dirty oil from Canada. And until we can get our act together as a country and figure out that clean, renewable energy is in both our economic interests and the interests of our planet. I mean, I don’t think it will come as a surprise to anyone how deeply disappointed the president and I are about our inability to get the kind of legislation through the Senate that the United States was seeking.” Her remarks set off a new round of jockeying, with all sides wanting their opinions heard.

Last week, 11 Democratic Senators seemed to be urging a “no” vote based on climate considerations. In a letter to Mrs. Clinton, they noted that greater reliance on a type of oil known for generating high levels of greenhouse gas emissions would run counter to the Obama administration’s stated clean energy goals. “Approval of this pipeline will significantly increase our dependence on this oil for decades,” it said.

Orlando gas station charges $5.69 a gallon

outhere69 -> RE: Obama will be blamed for rising fuel prices (4/22/2011 7:45:58 PM)

And in that article, you'll see:
Suncoast Energys, located near the Orlando International Airport, was charging $5.69 a gallon for regular gasoline on Friday. That's the highest of any gas retailer in the nation, according to price tracker gasbuddy.com.
By contrast, the average price in the city of Orlando is $3.78 a gallon, a few pennies below the state and national averages."
It's by a fricken' airport.  That's standard business in the US, just check out the cost for gas at the entry of DFW, or on the San Francisco peninsula near SFO.

Orlando gas station charges $5.69 a gallon

When I rented a car in Orlando in March, I was warned by the staff at the rental car company about that place. They are the closest station to the airport rental return and they dont post their prices. They hope that folks who are in a hurry to turn in a car and catch a plane will pump first and look later and apparently many do.

When I was there, gas was about 3.25 a gallon and this station was charging about 5.25.

Tazzys link was to the highest prices of 08, apples to apples.

From your post #61 Sanity. "Record Prices" which taz showed was bullshit.

Then you posted gas in Orlando at over $5.00/gallon which 2 knowledgable folks (including one that was actually there) showed to be an isolated sleazebag.

Once again, taking a page out of the liberal's handbook and using a one-time isolated instance and a few outright lies to try to cause panic.

Youre wound really tight, you should learn to relax a little bit. Thats the link that Google gave me, maybe try breathing into a paper bag or something.

It is true that the number of refineries have gone down.  But most refineries are not very profitable, and in such a case, merger to remove the weak players does improve profitability.  They are like the airlines of the oil world. No airline really makes much of a profit, so mergers happen.  They take in crude that has already been marked up to a premium in the futures market (where the REAL profiteers reside) and process it for a very small profit.

Have you ever wondered how all these companies that don't "make much of a profit" are able to stay in business year after year and somehow find a way to award huge bonuses to their management?

AA Flight Attendants Protest Executive Bonuses

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Flight attendants for American Airlines are picketing at Palm Beach International Airport as part of a nationwide protest against executive bonuses despite major company losses.

Tuesday's protest was staged outside the American Airlines terminal.  Protesters claim American Airlines' top brass have received bonuses for six straight years while flight attendants have sacrificed to save the company from bankruptcy.

You are the one who dug it up and posted it. Do you post things you dont agree with without a disclaimer?

Are you now saying you DON'T endorse what you posted?

That's a flip flop that would make Clinton proud.

Face it. You posted lies, spin and bullshit and you got caught.

Give it up and fight another day.
