Or..."What'cha mean you can't cook!?"

And so...you are a Dominant Female...share with us, if you will, what your daily eating pattern might be like, and who prepares and serves it to you.  From morning beverage to late-night snack, where is your food coming from?

We all know that female socialization has for centuries had a lot to do with preparing and serving food to others - and to a fairly large extent, it still does.  What was your experience growing up around food and cooking, how did you view it, and has that view changed?

Given that you are the Dominant person in your dynamic, what impact does this have on your activities in the kitchen, and your desires around cooking and serving food?

And finally, do you find it important that anyone who might serve you have some skills around cooking and serving food?

Submissives/slaves...your input is welcome here as well.  :)

Since I switch and do not have a full time live-in sub, I will give a virtual answer. This is what I would do:

First, I'm the chef. I eat very few foods that are prepared by anyone other than myself, unless I am at a restaurant.

I would allow a sub to cook once they had some proficiency, but that would take weeks. perhaps months, of training, depending on their skill set.

The sub would of course serve and do all the clean up. They would be taught how to open and pour wine and eventually how to choose wine.

As far as cooking training, they would first be taught how to be a good kitchen assistant. Which means making the stocks (beef, chicken, seafood and vegetable), easy sauces /dressings/condiments like blanc fromage, honey mustard dressing, salsa. They would learn how to make pasta and bread from scratch. They would be taken to the Farmer's Market and the butcher and taught how to buy produce and meat.

My goal would be to teach them how to cook for me when I did not feel like it, but they would have many things to master before I would consider them ready for that step.

Ms. ChatteParfaitt,

do You prefer Your fromage blanc sweetened with a touch of heavy cream wisked in and served with honey and fruit, or a bit more savory with the addition of herbs and a splash of EVOO?

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 11:57:21 AM)

My fromage blanc is straight from Chez Eddy's Living Heart cookbook, as are most of my stocks and sauces.

Here is the fromage blanc:

1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup non fat yogurt

blend or process these together, then whisk in

1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp lime juice

You can add white pepper, chopped chives, chopped parsley, and the green parts of scallion, if you wish.

It's not suitable for freezing, and only lasts 5 days, so I make it in small quantities. I usually keep it plain as I can use it as a substitute of sour cream or heavy cream in a sauce or sweeten it and use it for desserts. As you can imagine, it is not really suitable for whipping as a heavy cream.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 12:00:29 PM)

i do all the cooking. heather is simply useless in the kitchen, she has mastered grilled cheese and that's about it. unlike ChatteParfaitt, i am not a chef. i manage. so food around here is generally unexciting. heather does do all the cleaning up, which is nice because i hate doing it.

Would this be a creamy white sauce for pasta too?

I like to think I can already do most of this but would adore this sort of training.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 12:42:02 PM)

Absolutely. This is what I do for that:

In a skillet add 1 tab olive oil, 1 tab unsalted butter, chopped scallions, fresh garlic, mushrooms if you like them, and saute for several minutes. Take a cup of fromage blanc that has been chilled for at least one half hour, and add a few handfuls of low fat mozzarella (grated) to give it more stability when you turn it into a sauce. Whisk that up a bit then slowly add it to your sauted veggies, and whisk some more. Heat through, about 5 minutes on medium heat stirring very often. If it is too thick, add skim milk, though it probably won't be.

To make this into an alfredo sauce, add a few more handfuls of good quality (grated) romano, asiagio, and parmesan cheese (one handful each tastes great) along with Italian seasonings (don't go overboard on those).

Enjoy!

Thank you! It sounds dee-lish!!

I'm a brilliant cook, so why should I settle for second best? If a particularly talented sub was able to make something special I'd go for it, but mostly I eat what I want, when I want and make it better than anyone. I also rule my kitchen absolutely. My dogboy was surprised when I wouldn't allow him to wash dishes.

LadyNTrainer -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 4:26:42 PM)

I kill things. Then I eat them.  Usually in that order.  Sometimes I apply fire first.

SpyUnderCover -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 5:48:27 PM)

Cooking is usually a pleasure for me; I love to cook, especially when I can share the meal with other people. So unless my sub is an excellent cook, I usually prefer that to be my realm. Cleaning up? That's another matter entirely. That part I will definitely leave to the submissive.

Hubby does all the cooking because I create EPIC AMOUNTS OF FAIL SAUCE in the kitchen.

I don't like cooking and refuse to do it unless I absolutely must.  When I lived alone, I ate a lot of fast food and frozen dinners.  Yes, if someone wants to serve me, they'd better know how to cook.  It doesn't have to be fancy; I'm happy as long as it's edible and contains the basic food groups.

Greetings,

my previous partners were very adept at meal preparation. Cooking was not an expectation but something i did when the desire struck. We both did this in equal measure when dining in. Domesticity as a whole was not their forte and they believed my talents were better utilized in other areas. In terms of proficiency, i've taken professional classes and possess skill and experience in entertaining, menu planning, wine management and cheese selection.

In regard to my personal preferences, i enjoy a man that knows his way around the kitchen. i love having meals prepared for me and would grow tired of being the sole party that could feed the household. From my perspective there's a big difference between not wanting to cook and lacking an ability to do so. To this i'd add an adventurous palate, love of the grape, organic foods, and healthy consumption habits. The latter is pivotal.

Namaste,

~porcelaine

BlackTigerDragon -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 6:54:21 PM)

The most complex thing I've ever cooked was a cheese toastie. But then the only person I've ever cooked for was myself. Fuck you, cooking! My skills are limited to writing my idea of 'erotica' that would turn Paris Hilton off and throwing paint across the room!

littlewonder -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 6:57:36 PM)

When I was married and in my past relationship with the ex dom I did all the cooking. Neither could cook very well so I did it all..cooked,cleaned and everything in between. With Master though he likes to cook and when we're being all domestic he likes to show off his skills in the kitchen although I'm usually put to work helping out in the preparation and I always do the cleaning up.

While I can cook if I have to, I don't particularly care to so I'm glad he enjoys it.

LaTigresse -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 7:13:06 PM)

I am sure that anyone that has read my writing here for any length of time knows my love of cooking and food. I am the sort of weirdo that will watch Bourdain eating a soup that makes him orgasmic in Vietnam and start Googling, cruising recipes based upon the description given, madly scribbling, printing stuff out....the wander the grocery stores for ingredients. The sort of weirdo that thinks a great weekend is one where I get to spend some uninterupted time in the kitchen experimenting.

I rarely follow a recipe exactly. Or do so once, then start tweaking it. I love finding ways to cook really healthy foods, from good ingredients, and make it taste fantastic.

There is no type of cuisine that I won't try. I adore Italian....love making my own pasta and usually have some home made marinara in the freezer, or the ingredients to make it. I buy olive oil and garlic in restaurant supply size. Mexican food, both authentic and the American version, I love to play with.

Stir frys are like fast food for me, so easy.

I excel at home made soups, pies, breads. Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday because I get to cook a lot of delicious food and share it. Baking a batch of cookies or a cake, I don't get to do often enough but it's simple stuff.

Unlike many good cooks, I love having others cook for me......if they are reasonably competent. I also am perfectly happy with a grilled cheese sandwich and Campbells tomato soup on a cold rainy night. In fact, it is one of my favs.

If I had a slave in service, I would adore her help.......especially in the cleaning process. Once I get finished with a big cooking frenzy there is nothing I like better than to just plant my ass on the sofa and ignore the dishes and tidying up.

I forgot to answer the what usually eat part. The last few days, for breakfast, I've had a slice of home made cinnamon raisin bread that I made on Sunday. Lunch has been a salad with mixed greens, feta, tomatoes, balsamic vinegarette. Many times it is Pho made with leftover broth and lots of that yummy hot sauce. A snack at 3 was some raspberries I froze last summer, some plain Kalona yogurt and a banana, all mixed together. Then after yoga, I cheated on Nathan's dogs and two little Dove's darks.

Yesterday was the same except for dinner. Last night it was some home made ham and beans I had in the freezer and some freshly baked corn bread....the left overs of corn bread will probably be tomorrows breakfast if GD doesn't grab it for his late night snack!

LadyPact -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 7:23:59 PM)

When clip's here, he cooks.  With all that has been going on, I'm back in the habit of eating breakfast again, as well as dinner.  I pretty much gave up on snacks when I changed a lot of My food choices last year.  I will do that when it comes to playing.  I've found that if I don't put food in Me, I tend to drop.  Allow Me to hang My head in shame on that one because it is usually junk food, especially if I'm playing away from home.

As Otters so gallantly pointed out on another thread, I don't eat a lot of fruit, so if I am eating healthy, it's because of vegetables.  I prefer white meat to red most of the time.  One of My food vices is pizza.

These next few weeks, I'm not going to have much of a choice in letting the healthier options slip a bit.  I'll get back into routine when it's all over.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: The Eating Habits of Dominant Females (4/20/2011 8:22:45 PM)

Usually the only time I'm willing to cook is during the winter. I make huge pots of delicious soups and stews when the wood stove is going for heat, which is then divided up into something for the neighbors and the rest in individual servings to put in the freezer. Other than that, I can't be bothered. My partner knows providing a meal is part of every scene; it relaxes me and puts me in a generous mood. We go to a restaurant of my choosing (generally seafood, Thai or Mexican), order a gourmet veggie from Round Table or he uses his excellent culinary skills to make something spicy, ethnic and flavorful. When vegan Miss Chandra visited the Lair, he made broiled tempeh in house-made peanut sauce, brown rice and steamed vegetables. It was delicious.

As for my daily eating habits, I make a big 'breakfast latte' with strong french roast decaf coffee, low carb milk, 1/2 soy and 1/2 whey protein powder, hazelnut creamer, and stevia whipped with a stick blender. It's loaded with staying power and holds me until a large, late brunch or lunch, usually out with a friend, that *always* includes dessert or something carb-y. The exact recipe of this latte and how I like it served is the first thing I teach a partner who will be in the Lair when I wake up. I prefer it served to me in bed. I usually pass on a real dinner unless michael is cooking, taking me out, or some other dinner-related event is going on like the music soirees or potlucks before the contra dances. I eat very lightly most evenings either because I'm dancing and/or not hungry. If I want a guilty pleasure later sometimes I get on a kick of Mom's Cinnamon Toast: LaBrea whole grain bread or regular sourdough sliced thick, spread with butter, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and put under the broiler until well-toasted, bubbly and candied on the top (keep the bottom on a tray so it stays tender). A glass of low-carb milk with this is a perfect combination. If I'm really watching it and my stomach's growling I'll have a low-carb, low-fat protein drink instead. Costco has quite a tasty one in both chocolate and vanilla.
