I have a diploma that costs a fortune, and a mortgage as well, both of which hold considerable value, but I would say that a wedding license would be my most prized...or, if I had kids, their birth certificates.

What a great question. A birthday card from my Grandparents - they both signed it ... they have both since died, and I value it more than anything. Something about the handwriting gets to me. "I love you"... in their handwriting. They are gone, but they left a little piece of themselves with me. Thank you for the prompt to remember it. best, sunshine

Along with old photos & the memories that come with them, greeting cards and school projects and drawings that my kids wrote on all their lives, all the way from when their father guided their hand with the crayon in it to recent stuff, where it's apparent that they actually read the greeting cards and picked out the perfect ones. Signed with love. I've also come across old notebooks with sentences I had made them write when they were bad.....like "I will not leave my jacket at dad's house anymore" and "I will not spit my vegetables into my glass of milk when mom makes stir-fry", as well as "I will not call my brother penishead", written 25 times each. Good times, lol.

all my genealogy papers in all the boxes I have collected over the years...birth/death/marriage certs, my and my daughter's birth certs, my marriage cert, the death cert for my husband because it's a reminder of my past life, my baptism record. All those papers are reminders of my family and all that I cherish in this life.

My most prized piece of paper is actually a lot of papers bound into a book. It's made of handmade paper & my daughter hand wrote her poetry in it for me as a gift. Before that time, she wouldn't let me read most of her poetry as for her it was too personal. So her making me this book & giving it to me makes it one of my most prized possessions in the entire world.

Whilst I hope it isn't the highest level of piece of paper throughout my life, I do have to add the death certificate from a person I know to be too attracted to kids. It was priceless to me when I had seen the news that he had died [:)]

Phoenix - I have one of those too - the newspaper announcement of a man sent to prison. THe man was jailed for abusing one of my clients. That notice hung in my office for years.

My son's birth certificate, my old wedding photos, pictures of my son since before he was born. I hope eventually I'll be able to add another marriage license and a college degree to the list.
