Phoenix - I have one of those too - the newspaper announcement of a man sent to prison. THe man was jailed for abusing one of my clients. That notice hung in my office for years.

Well, I did not keep it at that time as I did not think about that option and don't want his name anywhere in my belongings, after all he had affected my life badly enough already whilst he was alive. But I was glad that he died aged 60 from a stroke, could not enjoy a retirement and more importantly could not cause any further harm to anyone. It gave me an incredible peace of mind [:)] Just before he had died I had seen him after not seeing him for several years as annoyingly he had to stop at a traffic light at which I had crossed at that time...felt a bit as if it was meant to be that he was meant to face me once again before he was taken off the earth...considering sometimes people who are about to die do try to make peace with people they did not get on well with as if they are feeling to be leaving soon (experienced that myself with a difficult client who became very apologetic for differences we had just before he then died). But so I know that sometimes even death news or like your example jail sentencing news can be incredible valuable [:)]

Well, if you're in the woods, don't use the shiny green leaves that turn pretty red. That's poison ivy. Ask me how I know. [:o]

I'm not sure I will, but I'm going to take you at your word [;)][;)]

~fr!~
I have two. One is a mothers day card from about 4 years ago when my world was changing (aka i was gettin divorced) a 2 x 4 stapled construction paper work of art with painted pink and yellow glitter roses, written inside so carefully "I love my mom. My mom loves her computer." It was a huge wake up, it broke my heart. My six year old son and his younger brother deserved better than that.

The home made card from the next year is in inside of that one. Its smaller and has a stick figure drawing of a tall person and two smaller people all smilling "I love my mom. She loves me and takes me places. She thinks i am cool". Big improvement. :-)

A photo of my dad, taken about 15 years ago. In it he's standing up, smiling and looks happy and content.

Today it's a different story. He's old, sick and tired.

I can't look at the photo I have of him without breaking down. I keep it locked away so that in years to come, when he's no longer with us and the pain has abated somewhat, I can remember my big strong dad and not the shell of a man he is now.

Along with old photos & the memories that come with them, greeting cards and school projects and drawings that my kids wrote on all their lives, all the way from when their father guided their hand with the crayon in it to recent stuff, where it's apparent that they actually read the greeting cards and picked out the perfect ones. Signed with love.

I've also come across old notebooks with sentences I had made them write when they were bad.....like "I will not leave my jacket at dad's house anymore" and "I will not spit my vegetables into my glass of milk when mom makes stir-fry", as well as "I will not call my brother penishead", written 25 times each. Good times, lol.

Thank you for the smile the bold part gave me!

You're welcome! Makes me smile too :) He still calls him penishead, btw.

An old letter from my Papa and Nanny to my Mom when I was born. My Dad was in Vietnam and it was a letter to comfort her and to welcome me and the contents don't matter now but for me it is a treasure.

DesFIP -> RE: What is highest level piece of paper u can get? (4/23/2011 8:02:38 AM)

Wait a month and I'll say my daughter's college diploma. This is the kid with the rare mood disorder, the one I was told to detach from at age 12. She's the first child with this to graduate high school, the first to live past age 20, and in a month she'll be the first to graduate college. And in another couple of years, she'll have her master's.

The one piece of paper I hope I never see is a birth certificate of a child for her. Because she couldn't get pregnant while on the meds she needs and I don't want to consider her taking a year off them.

I have 2 or 3  letters from my brother that are about 20 years old and they are my most treasured possession.  I also have a big crate filled with letters from friends and family from when I was a child until now.  [:)]

This is truly awesome. Brava, mom! Brava, daughter!

A letter my son wrote to me when he was 6, telling me how much he loved me. I still carry it in my purse to this day.
