I wouldn't dislike red light camera footage, if they were used to record, and help prevent violent crimes, or property invasion types of crimes. M

Uh huh... thats why Insurance rates are higher for males in your age range than females. [;)]

PA, only you would make the comment about cops like that.....but then again, I've come to expect your lack of couth.

Damn, was I the only one whose adrenaline pumped a bit?  It's unbelievable that people would put their own lives at risk doing shit like that, let alone the innocent people just sitting there waiting for the green light!  I've cleaned up too many accidents caused by idiots like the ones on the footage to even think about going on the green...I'm a "waiter" too....not a day goes by that I drive around here that I don't witness an "OH HOLY FUCK!" moment in traffic.  I know how to drive, I haven't had an accident in almost 15 years, and I've never had one that was my fault....it's everyone else out there that scares me!

Women drivers...

Yeah, and I'd bet my next paycheck that every one of those idiots that were speeding/racing thru the light were young men.  Simply the nature of the beast......

Well then you wouldn't be able to buy your cats some Fancy Feasts now would you!?

FR

I bet all those people had licenses.

Thing is, it needs to be edited, get the shots out where people got away with it, and then it should be shown in every school and every driver's ed class. You know I'm a skank badass motherfucker. I couldn't care less what the law says, really. I do whatever I want whenever I want.

But this is the rules of the road. It is something different than just some legal mumbo jumbo. The system doesn't work when people don't follow these types of rules. There is alot more to it than that. I haven't had a license in a long time, and don't particularly want one. But I don't do stupid shit like that. Maybe that's what we need to do, take ALL licenses away. When anyone gets stopped they get towed and maybe thrown in jail.

And that comes down to my opinion about fines. If fines don't go to the victim, forget it. Jail. In a hurry for that golf date ? Got $100,000,000,000,000,000 in the bank ? It doesn't matter, you are going to miss a bunch of your golf dates. You'll be danicng with Bubba and your olady will be dancing too, but not with you.

But then to make room for peole in jail who endanger others and don't give a shit we would have to clear out most of the ones who only commited acts against commerce, like selling weed, not having lids on their garbage cans, failing to recycle, shit like that. Commercial crimes beget commercial fines. Real crimes are different and let me put it this way - you can lose your license for not paying child support. I'll bet my left nut that none of the assholes in that video were in any danger of being taken off the road by suspension. All they had to pay was a fine.

People with money don't give a fuck, I used to be one. What a bad DWI (with accident) used to cost me in the old days I would make back within a week no problem. Thus I didn't care at all. But I always stopped for red lights, provided I could see them.

But I can see the assholes out there in Cleveland. It's bad. Twelve seconds of their precious time is worth more than a dozen human lives. And I noticed that those license plates are at least very similar to Ohio's. Springfield where ? Where they filmed The Simpsons ? Sounds about right.

The very best part of that video was where the asshole swerved to miss a car and wound up hitting the pole, fucking up his car but not anyone else's. Another real good one is when the little PU truck hit the big one and they wound up face to face. If the driver of the bigger PU truck, wouldn't you be tempted to just mow the little MF down ? I would. Sorry riceburner, you just fucked with the wrong dude.

So you're fine with recording/preventing one type of crime, but not another?

No. I should have said more. I would simply prioritize recording home invasions, and murders, before trafic crimes (which are also bad, by the way).
Hope that is clearer. M

But placing the cameras at lights frees up the police officers so they can focus on more violent crimes. I'd rather have the cops watching for violent crime and the cameras watching traffic violators rather than vice versa.

If you have a gun and don't pay attention and hurt someone what happens ?

If you have a car and don't pay attention and hurt someone...........

We have them here. We call then "Scameras"

Here is your challenge. Name ONE municipality that has dropped them because of the costs

That was easy enough.

From the article.

"Last week, Dallas officials reviewed the numbers and decided that a quarter of the cameras they had installed to catch motorists running red lights were too effective. So they shut them down. They are not alone. Faced with data showing that drivers pay attention to cameras at intersections — resulting in fewer ticketable violations and ever-shrinking revenue from fines — municipalities across the country are reconsidering red light cameras, which often work too well."

Hard to believe that someone would challenge me on something so easily Googled. Most grueling 3 minutes of my life.

It goes to show some people could care less if they look like an idiot.

Good luck. This is an unincorporated area covered by the county sheriff's dept. It's big and has no city police.

Well then you people should learn how to drive.

If they want to "help" us- they could sinc the lights better to save gas.  Some of the traffic patterns are alot of stops.

and you should pull your head outta your ass.  Hunky, I usually like you, but denying that there are fuckwads that run redlights whether accidentally or routinely, and claiming: "license plate recognition software is en force -  to check for tags, insurance and so forth.

Every road in the future is going to be a toll road and time peak- off peak billing.

This film is a lie.

Very few people blow red lights.   The tickets given are those on the line....a split second. "

is unicorn and rainbow fantasy at best. Granted, there is the possibility that some departments do this.. but I am willing to put money down that MOST don't.

*haz a sad cause I will be adding Hunky to the ignore list*

(I am seriously sleepy. I hope this made sense)

pahunkboy -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/22/2011 7:11:39 AM)

Why do you want a camera to give you a ticket?

That is dumb.

Cameras don't give you a ticket, Hunkyboy. Violating traffic laws do.
And the sad truth is, some violations are deadly.
If the camera has saved one life, then I'm all for it.

It's been awhile since any post has left me with the urge to say DUH. [:-]
