Nope.. did one in college.. a research study... years ago. Then again, they were at least honest people.

[;)]

Is that kinda like "I stayed at a holiday inn once". It sounds like it to me.

Nope..... some people are honest.

Sad to see you are not... but not surprising.

My point is... we are already under constant surveillance. Drive down a street with banks... boom... they got you on cameras. Cell phones constantly monitor your location,,,

iPhone and iPad customers were spooked Wednesday to find out that their devices have recorded a detailed history of their geographical locations for the past year in an unprotected file. But it turns out that Apple already explained its location-collection practices in a detailed letter — almost a year ago.

And even though Apple has provided an explanation, there’s still a problem — the fact that this file containing the data is so easily accessible to anyone, and the fact that this data is stored in such an intricate manner that doesn’t seem to benefit the customer.

To believe we can go anywhere without technology knowing....

If we are all under constant surveillance, wouldn't we be able to be found when any one of us goes "missing"? I don't think we're as heavily watched as you've implied we are. Banks have cameras, yes, but not for the purpose of spying but for security. I have a hard time believing their cameras are pointed towards street traffic. Cell phones can't monitor your location unless you have that feature turned on. I have mine turned off. I saw no reason to have it on.

I dont like a ticket by mail. They want to give me a ticket based upon what they view on a cam, they can look up my license plate, come to my door, serve me a summons for court, then prepare to have the video as evidence.

Why on earth would the municipality or state or whoever is sending the tickets do that? Do you realize how costly that would be? And face it, if you've gotten a ticket in the mail you've already committed a traffic violation. If you believe you haven't, then you can dispute it. But to say everyone should have a summons for court is, to say the least, impractical for all parties involved.

I never said said it was for spying. Police can recreate the flight of a suspect by grabbing ATM cameras, store videos, ect. A bus driver here will lose his job because of a security camera that caught him running a red light, hitting a car. That wasnt for "spying" but it is just as useful. Why is it suddenly impractical? Its how it used to be done before these cameras came up. The video offers proof. All it takes is someone to do research, someone to hand deliver.... hell, for that matter, call the cop down the street from where the camera is and have them write the ticket.

Surveillance Society: New High-Tech Cameras Are Watching You

What people may not realize, however, is that advanced monitoring systems such as the one at the Statue of Liberty are proliferating around the country. High-profile national security efforts make the news--wiretapping phone conversations, Internet monitoring--but state-of-the-art surveillance is increasingly being used in more every-day settings. By local police and businesses. In banks, schools and stores. There are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the United States shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched, all of us, almost everywhere.

US doles out millions for street cameras - The Boston Globe

WASHINGTON -- The Department of Homeland Security is funneling millions of dollars to local governments nationwide for purchasing high-tech video camera networks, accelerating the rise of a "surveillance society" in which the sense of freedom that stems from being anonymous in public will be lost, privacy rights advocates warn.

I am not conviced about the "rapidly" part of it. Besides...4 billion hours of footage a week? Good luck scrutinizing every minute of that footage. Just because something is available, doesn't necessarily make it useful.

That may be true but it is an irrelevant byproduct of the reasons they are being installed.

I doubt it's irrelevant to the person who uses it in court. Plus, you didn't qualify your original statement in that manner. You made a definitive statement that wasn't entirely true, hence my comment. :)

Because an honest person would admit they dont know everything.

The implied tone of your other post suggested it was being used for less than security purposes.

So are you saying, that you are for, against or indifferent on the issue of traffic cameras? Your initial posts suggested you were against it. This latest one suggests you find them useful.

It's impractical because of the volume. Prior to traffic cameras, you would have to be caught. With a traffic camera, every single violation is captured. I would imagine the difference in numbers to be significant.

Who said I did. You're really reaching here. Can you say with absolute imperical knowledge that you've broken a law? You probably can. Which is kinda ironic that you're calling me dishonest for saying I haven't broke any laws in a month while you're admitting you have done something wrong. Lol

I mean since you're so honest and all.[:D]

To the best of my memory, I have not been in a area with traffic cameras. But, I can see the usefulness of such items. I can also see the drawbacks. So, im some ways or others, I fit into all three.

You dont read very well.

quote:

And you know every law in your area. every law for your city/county/state/us. every internet law, phone law, mail law, ect ect ect.

And you know without a doubt that you have not broken a single one of those laws, known or unknown to you, in the last month.

Based upon that you are lying.

I'm pretty familiar with most laws..and the tone of law. I also rarely leave my house because I don't care to. That's why I have an at home business. The chances of me actually doing something that breaks the laws is extremely slim to begin with.

So I can say that I haven't with good assurance that I haven't. Now you could continue making personal attacks.

The last wreck I was in I tried to get the footage and could not.

Tazz,  these same people who say it is ok- will be the first to rant when they get a ticket by mail.  I almost look forward to it.

My sister got one, and so did the police chiefs kid.

tj444 -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 4:21:54 PM)

Imo, it can be easy to break the law, there are thousands of laws and some make no sense what so ever. For instance... in some states its illegal to perform oral sex, in some its illegal to have an affair, in some states an erection that shows through a man's clothing is illegal, in Newcastle, Wyoming it is illegal to have sex in a butcher shop's meat freezer. Yup, it can be easy to break the law and not even know it.

honest, officer, i slipped and fell, i didnt mean for my mouth to land on his c**k

Oh I've had them several times in the past, (all speeding tickets though) when I lived back home (Hawai`i doesn't have traffic cameras for traffic violations) and I got pissed off every time I got one in the mail. The worst one was when I lived at home and my Dad got it. Woooeee! The shit hit the fan then. They did deter me for quite a while, but I would fall back into old patterns, particularly when I was late for work But...I knew I was in the wrong, so I accepted responsibility for being in the wrong, paid the fines for each one and continued on with life. :)

pahunkboy -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 4:49:25 PM)

^ I guess they did not work - being that you had more then 1.   Nice of you to balance the budget for us.

t99206 -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 4:54:30 PM)

our cameras are so messed up they take more pics of vehicles either not moving thru the intersection or going thru on green than they do of red light runners.

pahunkboy -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 5:40:52 PM)

Sarcasm,   maybe the state should seize the cars that do this!  /sarcasm

Alarming for people who use that feature, but personally I'm not concerned because I have that feature turned off. The information in that article references the same information as the other article. A person still has to have that feature turned on in order for it to work.

Oh! There is one person we should all fear in our quest for privacy: Santa Claus. After all, he sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good. Doesn't that scare the crap outta you? Some near omniscient person living on this planet? *skeered!!!!!*

Have a great day everyone (or evening or morning, as the case may be), I'm off to do some shopping. :)

DeviantlyD -> RE: Red Light Camera footage (4/23/2011 5:56:01 PM)

I just figured it out...Santa Claus is the anti-Christ!!!!

*LMFAO*

Okay, gone for real this time. ;)
