We may need you to go start a thread for our entertainment.

Do you want tickets to my next concert?

You'll still pay, but at least you'll be able to JAM out.  I know how much you English people like to kiiiick it!

soul2share -> RE: The Care and Feeding of Trolls (4/23/2011 7:45:25 PM)

I dunno.....I watch the trolls come here and do their thing...sometimes it's like driving past a car crash....you can't help but look.  They come here, spouting their vast "knowledge", only to end up tucking their tails and skulking off into the night.

Although, the earlier one didn't waste any time pissing the mods off enough to get the old "awaiting approval" status, did he?  Not that it mattered...I hid him real quick...listening him spout his crap got really tedious really fast!

windchymes -> RE: The Care and Feeding of Trolls (4/23/2011 8:59:42 PM)

Why do we look at carnage on the interstate? Why do we touch the plate of burrito's even though the waiter said it was hot? Why do we smell our armpits even though we know they are going to stink?

Just cuz!!!!! [:)]

Real Trolls eat fisheads and girl scout cookies made with real girlscouts.

Thinking somebody meant GOBLINS.

"I am trying to decide which post gets the *WIN* here: sunny's book club analogy or Termy's "troll manual"..
Both so cleverly rendered, each in it's own unique and enjoyable style.. "

I do not favor praise, so give it way. I would not enjoy it much.

T^T

ETA : just wait until you see the service manual and maintainence schedule !

THIS.

There is only one Trollish one, the others are now  goblins.  People, ya just have to learn the difference now.  Only one Troll for all the bridges now available or being built.  [;)]

Why do so many people feed trolls such gourmet banquets? When there's ample evidence that someone either needs to crawl back under their nice warm rock, or someone else got clipped a little too close with the shearing clippers, why do people keeping filling up their plates??

I'm not thinking of any one respondent to such a thread, I just want to know. Is it some tacit groupthink that enjoys the batting around of the OP? How can such threads get up to 15 pages within 24 hours, give or take??

I'm not considering myself free of such action either.

Thoughts, anyone??

thoughts:

"tacit groupthink that enjoys batting around the op" is called trolling.

an op who posts retarded shit isn't a troll. unless he's being trollbait and trying to get trolls to respond. then he is a troll trolling trolls.

Greetings,

In spite of the other responses (which i rarely read) i usually try to give the OP the benefit of doubt. Even when their verbiage is odd or probably instigating the replies they've received i often overlook it. Group think is pervasive in any venue. It's merely a matter of where the individual stands within the community that determines how the question or comment will be received. The supposed trolls aren't the only ones guilty of saying off the wall things. They've simply failed to garner a sympathetic audience for their musings. [;)]

Agreed. Haven't been on the forum too much to make a solid judgement but having scanned it occasionally over the last few years I noticed that some who start fairly benign threads can really get blasted. A lot of the perps seem to be regulars with friends who join in and a sort of tag team approach takes over where the thread descends into an orgy of abuse. By the same token there seem to be a good few decent people on here and some pleasant discussion which can be fun! [:)]

Care and feeding of trolls
The official manual

Thank you for purchasing the troll package one. It embodies the latest and greatest technology in slurpology. The epitome of any city. With proper care and maintainence your troll will operate flawfully for many, many, many, many, many, many, well you get the idea.

The fuel for the advanced troll is simple. Virgins. They need not be vestal, but sacrificial is preffered. You don't have to, but think of it as putting premium gas in your car instead of regular.

Your new troll requires betwen one and three litres of water per day, or between seven and fifteen litres of beer or other suitable substitute, such as wine or other aparatif.

Your troll needs to eat occasionally, meat is recommended. When it comes time, test your troll as follows; offer two pieces of meat, one cooked and the other not. That way your troll will adjust to the new environment better. A happy troll is a useful troll.

Trolls operate most efficiently under a bridge. To operate the troll simply mount the bridge. If you can't provide a bridge, you must munt the troll directly. You'll figure it out.........

If you have any questions about the care or usage of your troll, please call
1-800-DAMIFINO.

Who gets to decide who's a troll?

Don't get me wrong, i know what you're saying. i've seen threads where it's like people crowding around an accident scene, waiting for something juicy. But i've also seen the term "troll" thrown out when it wasn't deserved, to refer to anybody who says something that the majority don't agree with. i've seen people jump to conclusions too quickly and hijack a thread that deserved to be taken seriously. That's not always the case, but it happens. i think sometimes people are too quick to judge "trolls".

But, yes. If you think someone's a troll, just don't post to their thread. That's much better than posting just to tell them you think they're a troll.
