Think about it. I am sure it will come to you.

Who was it that said that a Democracy can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury

In other words, until the Socialists take over, and begin to destroy everything

You are quite correct as we already have socialism...for the rich. See TARP, the fed, farm subsidies, oil subsidies, ethanol, tariffs, $100's of billions in corporate welfare and that's from the CATO inst.

Course the real problem and why the country is in fact being destroyed is that our brand of socialism supports the capitalist...the opulent few not anything like a social safety net for those so-called lazy shiftless unwashed outside the beltway. If you really cared for much of what you post, you'd take an objective look at just how our govt. works, in whose real interest it is acting and who is investing all of that 'free speech'[sic] in govt.

But you don't. You come here to rant, continuing to try to keep alive tired old right wing, capitalist propaganda.

Actually, when one actually enjoys getting robbed, they would be considered the envious one. That's fine you like giving them your money, but quit pointing them to all these others to rob with your 'we need to give the rich more money!' crap.

Are you saying that the voters discovered how to get a couple wars and a whopping double dip multi-trillion dollar bailout for themselves?

It depends on how bad it gets here, theres certainly a tipping point and it doesnt happen all at once. See my Shell Oil / EPA thread for the latest example of leftists pushing industry out and destroying jobs as well as prouction, and harming our trade imbalances even further.

Leftists destroying jobs and pushing industry out? Shouldn't that statement be past tense? Years ago, Bill Clinton signed NAFTA. Nobody forced him to sign NAFTA and it was a big mistake. But that was then. Since nobody can change the past, Americans need to look at what's going on now. Now democrats are trying to fix the situation and the party of no keeps blocking them. Democrats want to bring decent paying jobs back. Republicans want them to stay overseas. Otherwise, they wouldn't vote no on bills to discourage outsourcing.

tj444 -> RE: Tax the Rich? Hahaha no frakkin' way... (4/26/2011 10:47:08 AM)

Imo, it doesnt matter what you do, those jobs are not coming back. Even if you reduce outsourcing, the majority of those jobs you envision coming back to the US wont, most of those "jobs" if moved here will be done by cnc/robotics instead of workers/slaves paid $50/m in some undeveloped country. And intellectual jobs like computer programing, I dont see how that outsourcing can be stopped at all.

Fellow -> RE: Tax the Rich? Hahaha no frakkin' way... (4/26/2011 4:44:34 PM)

I think "Tax the Rich" is a slogan. It is a distraction that promotes kind of tunnel-vision view on the complex problems. Th Hypocrite in Chief Obama occasionally throws it out. Even if possible, it would not (alone) solve the problems. Everybody should realize: we live in good times and it is almost over.

provfivetine -> RE: Tax the Rich? Hahaha no frakkin' way... (4/26/2011 7:11:38 PM)

Taxing the rich to solve our problems is just another Leftist myth.

If taxes on the rich were raised from current levels (35%) to the Clinton levels (39.6%) then the government would collect an additional 300-400 billion dollars. Assuming that these numbers are correct and we take the 400 billion number; this means that the government would be running a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit instead of a 1.6 trillion dollar deficit. In fact, if we taxed the rich at 100% then we still wouldn't solve the debt problem.

I have no problem in increasing the tax rate of the rich.

But, many just don't understand that this won't make that much of a dent in the problem.

At the end of the day, accept the fact, we are up the fucking creek without a paddle.

However, we "work this out" it is going to be painful, people are going to seriously suffer and do without some even necessary services, and it ain't going to be pretty.

So that would be 400 billion or so that would not need to come from the backs of the poor and needy of this country....right?
Or do you think that is too much to ask of the rich in this current crisis....sunshine patriots and all that .

1. Tax millionaires and billionaires at 90%, those close to being millionaires at 50%

2. Cut defense spending by ending wars in the middle east and stop policing the world

3. Stop giving subsidies to oil companies

That should solve the debt problem in a few years without cutting funding for education, putting spending caps on medicaid, or ending medicare.

A better way would be to cut spending to a level equal to tax revenues, without raising taxes on anybody. Someone has to pay for this monstrosity, one way or another - as you've indicated, but it isn't just the poor and needy. The poor and needy comprise a very small portion of the American population and don't pay income taxes in the first place. The inflation resulting from the deficits is what hurts them, as they suffer the most due to rising prices and other ill effects related to an inflated money supply, though deficits hurt everyone regardless of socio-economic status.

Also, 47% of the American population doesn't pay any income tax. This includes a large portion of the upper-middle class demographic; so it's obvious that many people would just rather stick it to the rich. However, the reasons for this are always emotionally charged, rather than being rooted logically. Once you crunch the numbers you can see this. The whole taxing the rich mantra is centered around class warfare and ultimately stems from an adherence to the labor theory of value (which is false). The rich already pay enough in taxes; they don't need to pay more, and if we taxed the rich at 39.6% (Clinton levels) then it would barely make a difference, and if we taxed them at 100% then it wouldn't solve the problem. The poor (and everyone else for that matter), are being hurt either way.

The solution to this problem is to cut spending (at least to a level equal to tax receipts), because there isn't enough money - literally - to fund the status quo.

1. If you taxed millionaires and billionaires at 90% then they would absolutely leave the country. Many millionaires, and nearly all billionaires, are international people; they will live in what ever country provides them with an environment to protect their wealth. I can understand this argument not holding as much water if taxes were raised to the Clinton levels, but 90% would send the rich packing. You would end up with less revenue than if you taxed them at current levels. Anything over 40% would mean less revenue.

2. Agreed. Studies on this (if you are talking about bringing the troops home from the 150 countries the US is in) show that this move would save around 1 trillion.

3. I'll do you better. How about we end subsidies for ALL energy companies (including coal, nuclear, petroleum, etc) That would save 100 billion.

Under this scenario, there would still be a deficit. Keep trying!

Other countries don't let people take large amounts of wealth out of the country if they emmigrate. Other countries require that you be solvent to immigrate. Other countries require payment for the education they provided before someone could emmigrate.

Who was stuck in such a country ? That's the country. The country which spawned immigrants who came here and asked " Where is the freedom ? ". The country in which one does not need a fishing license.

North Korea and Cuba, countries like that might have their laws so tight that there is no way a creative individual would have difficulty getting money out of the country, sure.

They can give the government money, or give to charity if they choose. There is nothing stopping them...

What you seem to be requesting is government to act like a strong arm robber and steal peoples wealth, as a thief in the night might. Its odd that we would have laws against the public at large stealing yet encourage our own government to steal.

Really - why is it moral if government does it, at the behest of a "democratic" mob

EternalHoH -> RE: Tax the Rich? Hahaha no frakkin' way... (4/27/2011 6:54:20 AM)

I think its more about the rich crowd who wants shared sacrifice compliance among the assholes of their own gang, those assholes who are too stupid to realize they are killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.
