I don't think anyone's grabbed this one yet...
Bob Marley "Get Up Stand Up"
Last Wed was 4:20 we had us a good jam session down at the local pub. For once I didn't have to haul my drums. Was a nice Pearl set there. Did "Sympathy for the Devil" and "All Along the Watchtower" and some other cool shit.

(If you remember that one, you *have* to be close to my age.)

I was thirteen and in seveth grade when the Wall album came out... the perfect age for it! We drove the teachers nuts singing it in the hallways. They actually tried to ban us from singing it (HA!) but most of the time they pointed out irony of the phrase "we don't need no education."

The Wall eventually led me to discover the rest of Pink Floyd, something I wish more people would do. To too many people Pink Floyd is just The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon. Both are awsome albums (I think DSOTM is the better of the two) but there is so much more to Floyd than that and people are missing out.

I agree, they have a great body of work. Speaking of Floyd, what about some Money?

For me, the best protest song IMHO is Walk by Pantera. Call me crazy (waits for the chorus of "you're crazy") lol.

TY !!

Not a protest tune, exactly but a great live version of Led Zep with Neil Young. Note the very baby faced Jimmy Paige:

Speaking of Buffie St. Marie, here's another she wrote, but I'll use Donovan's rendition being as that's what everyone heard at the time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC9pc4U40sI&feature=related

And of course there were protests about things other than war, this gathering being quite historical. I like it because it's being sung in situ, not on the radio or at a music concert:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBUPr8oDRL8

Awhile after this song some guy came up to the microphone and told these folks about this dream he has.
