Hippiekinkster -> Best Protest Songs (4/26/2011 5:43:50 AM)

Some music just makes me want to go to the barricades and throw a Molotov...

Like this one: James McMurtrys' "Can't Make It Here Anymore"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTW0y6kazWM

So what do you think is the most powerful protest music?

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Best Protest Songs (4/26/2011 5:58:06 AM)

Buffalo Springfield, For What Its Worth

I remember when that came out, I was about 14 or so...

I remember when things got a little warm in the cities, too...

Malvina Reynolds - Little Boxes

Kid Rock's version of "Fortunate Son".

He's got a better voice than Fogerty and puts more emotion into the song, in my opinion.

Good one, rulemylife. And though I'm a Foggarty fan, I have to agree. Great cover.

Marc2b -> RE: Best Protest Songs (4/26/2011 6:36:41 AM)

The ULTIMATE protest song.

This is one of my favorites from the 1980's. Although Nena has a much cuter ass, I like THIS version better.

A protest song doesn't have to be loud and fast to be effective as BRUCE has shown us.

Lastly, THIS is not usually thought of as a protest song but considering how against the grain of human nature it goes... I think it deserves mention.

There are a great many more but I've got actualy WORK to do today. [:)]

Absolutely agree, another great classic !!

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Best Protest Songs (4/26/2011 6:51:17 AM)

Shine On is not protest, more a personal reflection song , but its my fav by PF, and one some may not have heard for a while.

If you know of it at your age, than I have to say your musical education has not been entirely lacking !!
