Burial is to be within 24 hours, but not at sea, nor cremated (as some folks have surmised).  It's similar to Jewish tradition; the body is buried whole, on land.

By islamic law if no land is available for burial then the body is to be buried at sea. The body is to be cleansed and disposed of within 24 hours. I'm sure they had an imam on hand who was able to make sure that all customs were followed.

No land was available because no country could or would accept his body for burial.

to bad for the poor bastard they shot, at sea is the best way.  no way any evidence will ever turn up.

yep they covered all the bases

I'm not sure what you mean. By non-match I meant, would it be quicker to see sample A does not match sample B rather than sample A and Sample B are a perfect match (half match for a brother-sister comparison)?

how is it that the man with one of the highest IQ's in the world is a bouncer in a bar?

your logic is, well you dont have any logic
If you're going to take a superior stance, because of your job, shouldn't you tell us what it is you do, so that we can compire... Perhaps, admire?! M

I didn't learn this, until this past afternoon. This makes complete sense, because the President while after justice, probably was not intending to piss off more non-militant muslims. M

what most folks don't realize is that most analytical techniques are invented by a bunch of eggheads in a university lab with a LOT of cool equipment. After the technique is perfected and vetted, it must then be 'dumbed down' so that a typical tech can do it without undue difficulty and still obtain good data. This typically means dwawing the process WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out.

I know this isn't true.

so?

That has nothing to do with fingerprints.

There would be extensive medical files on him somewhere.

Why are you assuming they didn't run his prints?

Okay, it's officially time for bed. I thought you typed "Why are you assuming they didn't run his pants?"

The tune "I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Weiner" is now stuck in my head. Thanks! :D

Edited to correct spelling error. Dang I hate when that happens! ;)

In a DNA comparison the outcomes are binary. The negative result is 100% the sample did not come from someone in the group of possible sources for the other sample. The positive result indicates that the sample came from someone who might be in the group. How unlikely the sample is to be from outside that group is determined by the type of test and the number of matching markers. With highly degraded samples the results are often very tentative. With a sample of blood drawn and handled apporpiately the DNA match can be very high quality.

Kary Mullis says that the pcr test he developed to sequence dna will tell if you are not someone but it cannot tell that you are some one. In short just because the dna match, it is not proof via pcr that the two samples came from the same person.

A PCR result from two non degraded samples can give a result that is well beyond 99% certainty of a match.

Not according to kary mullis who invented and got the nobel prize his work in this area.

How many analytical techniques have you developed?

I have several either solo or as an assistant.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Bin Laden..........DEAD (5/3/2011 7:48:39 AM)

The DNA stuff mentioned above is true to a point. You can never prove an EXACT match without sequencing the entire strand.

What you CAN do is eliminate 99.999+% of the people.

Remember, scientists never PROVE anything. They only DISPROVE all the possible alternatives.

DNA was only one of the analytical techniques they used. Apparently, one of his wives confirmed his identity as well as facial identification software among other tools.

He said that it wasn't possible to produce a 100% match. It is possible to do a DNA comparison and achieve a very high quality match.

I don`t think the President would have put this out if he wasn`t sure.

Mission Accomplished
