Steven, I didn't know this was a new translation for pushy. Of course, I agree with you, if this is what pushy usually means, though I thinking more along the lines of "forward."

This has usually been my experience as well. I've felt terrible on a few occasions, when I've emailed, and spoken on the phone for 2-4 months, than met, and I've felt no chemistry at all. For this reason, I like to meet, and get that initial "should we even try" out of the way.

I treat people online, like people I meet on the street, and am generally not afraid of people; I can usually feel if something is profoundly "off" fairly quickly, and usually back off as gently as I can. M
