I've read that AQ is basically on the outs anyway.  They're not involved in the revolutions inn the Arab world, and their terror attacks have lately killed a lot of Muslims.  However, knocking out OBL can't hurt - I bet that he was financing a lot of operations.

As bin Laden was the biggest face associated with terrorism this is a symbolic victory in a wild west justice sort of way. I doubt that Al-Qaeda will crumble like a dry leaf in autumn. It won't be surprising to see them come back with a vengeance especially after he was dumped at sea. This is hardly the end of terrorism. I won't be surprised to see a wave of terror acts now here on American soil. Nothing on the scale of 9-11 but more of it.

Al-Qaeda isn't an organisation in a similar vein to the IRA.

The IRA was a well organised group of cells, and so, by taking out the big players, you could undermine their operations.

Al-Qaeda, on the other hand, is a loose association of religious zealots driven by an idea and reliant on very little organisation; they can spring up anywhere.

that vid has me crying all over again.

I am unrepentantly happy that the bastard behind those attacks is dead.

I loved the "alleged" MLK quote I shared so much that I shared it without researching it and, of course, it bit me on the duff. Anyone who knows anything much at all about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. knows that, even without saying those exact words, he DID share and promote the sentiment it expressed. So....in an effort to right my error of incorrectly attributing the quote to him....I found a legitimate quote of his that expresses the same feelings:

"Mankind must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.”

Same thoughts and sentiments, different words. Sorry for the earlier error but I stand by the fact that wise men like him would have been appalled at this celebration of death........luci

What makes the muslim extremists so dangerous is they find it a reward to die for their cause. Even in the height of the cold war, the soviets really didn't want to die or destroy communism. I say let the extremists meet their 72 virgins in heaven. The other thing is... please help me. Point out the "moderate muslim" to me. The so called "good muslims" sure are quiet. I have to assume silence is acceptance. I also note in almost every flash point in the world is where islam is up against another dominant religion.

I wouldn´t toast him in anything. But i certainly wouldn´t mind toasting the SEALS in the best champers around. A job well done even if it tooks such a long time.

I'm content to be a *moron* in this particular instance.

I remember watching 9/11 unfold from the UK, with my young sons, with sheer horror and utter sadness.

That said......I think it's another violent action among so many. It doesn't fill me with gladness nor does it make me want to celebrate in the least.

Every innocent mother, father, brother, sister and child that dies, is hugely sad.......no matter who's hand caused it or why.

How many nations do not have blood on their hands in some way, for some reason?

A friend of mine wrote, and sung this song, last week at my folk group.........this is how I feel. I can easily stomach OBL's death..... the fervent celebrations just seem tasteless and dismaying.

Hey, I just checked out your profile. You need to update your age! 'Cause if you are 22 today, that means you joined when you were underage. Eeep!

I, however, shall remain ageless. *grin*

Pointing out moderate Muslims to you wouldn't help, you wouldn't recognize them if they came up and slapped you in the face, you wouldn't even see them because you can't remove your blinkers. You know those guys who simply live their lives and practise their religion in peace and quiet, bet that came as a surprise, eh...

Why do they have to protest? If you follow a religion do you think you have to protest against every extremist? If you are a Christian, do you protest against the extremist Christians, about every crime Christians commit? You don't? Oh dear but Muslims should do because some redneck decides they have to? Get real!

Good Post Lady C. Poor old Arizona, or whatever nickname he is using this week, doesnt have a clue. If he did he would have noticed that there has been very little Anti-American sentiment over this in much of the Muslim world.

His arrant nonsense will always be with him, he is a sad little bunny.
