Status: offline 		Bin Laden was finally found -- more than 9-1/2 years after the 2001 attacks on the United States -- after authorities discovered in August 2010 that the courier lived with his brother and their families in an unusual and extremely high-security building, officials said.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. The detainees at Guantanamo Bay were the ones who killed Osama bin Laden. Got it. ;)

Wouldn't that undermine AQ more than anything else?

Though bin Laden was pursued throughout the George W. Bush administration, President Obama renewed the effort on June 2, 2009, when he signed a memo to CIA Director Leon Panetta ordering a “detailed operation plan” for finding and capturing bin Laden. More than a year later, what Obama described as a “possible lead” came in. Senior administration officials said they had been tracking an Al Qaeda courier in bin Laden’s inner circle. Two years ago, the U.S. determined the areas in Pakistan where he operated. By August, they had determined the exact location in Abbottabad, Pakistan -- where bin Laden was apparently hiding out in a sprawling compound on the outskirts of town. One U.S. official said the compound was built over a six-year period. The intelligence community, led by the CIA, concluded it was custom-built to house someone of bin Laden’s stature. It was enclosed by a high wall topped with barbed wire, and protected by two security gates. Officials said that by February, they determined they would pursue the compound. This touched off a series of high-level meetings to develop a course of action. According to one senior administration official, the president convened at least nine meetings with his top national security leaders. Those advisers met formally another five times, in addition to countless briefings among the National Security Council, CIA, Pentagon and Joint Chiefs of Staff. The president was actively involved at all levels, the official said. The federal law enforcement source said that by last week, it seemed “this might be the real deal.”

Let me ask you something Sanity, why is it that this guy was captured after 9/11, held under President Bush, and no USEFUL intel was gotten from him?


The Bush administration tried for HOW MANY YEARS to get Bin Laden?

Looks like some new eyes and minds made a connection that the Bush Administration people didn't.

Nonsense. Obama did nothing to change the operation of Team 6. Its the same group that captured Hussein.

Nowhere in the article does it say that enhanced techniques were used on the guys who revealed the identity of the courier.

We didn't use "enhanced techniques" for the first WTC bombing...we had due process, on American soil...in the NYC metro area...and a criminal trial, in the NYC metro area.  Guess what?  We found who did it, convicted them, and put them in an American prison.  So why exactly did we need Guantanamo, and why all the outrage and paranoia about the detainees being tried in NYC, and imprisoned in the US?

Bush can't  be held responsible for the debt, the economy, etc. but now he's the guy who really caught Osama according to most conservative posters I've see around the net.  Even though it wasn't a high priority for him as early as 2003.
