Obama now has a much bigger military/political victory than his predecessor. Afghanistan, Iraq, the hanging of Saddam and other "Mission Accomplished" events don't come close. Bin Laden is dead. Obama lying about US forces having had a corpse would be political suicide and there would probably be videos of the decedent dancing around with a recent copy of the NYT by now. The details sound iffy and the timing is perfect but they probably could have killed him at will any time for a few months. Obama could choose to declare victory in Afghanistan and Iraq and bring the troops home. If Obama invested the money in a genuine economic recovery at home he could save his Presidency and have a shot at greatness. Obama has the political cover now to do the right thing for the country. Killing Bin Laden provides an opportunity for change in a good direction. We'll see if Obama chooses to stop feeding the war machine and plows the money into the economy.

I agree with cutting down on military spending. The best strategy of war is secrecy, not money. I think cutting military spending and investing that money in single-payer health care, solar and wind power is a good idea. I think our leaders need to create and vote on more bills to discourage outsourcing and I think any politician who votes no should have their names and the fact they voted no advertised on TV several times a day. That would keep them from accepting bribes because if they did they would be guaranteed to lose in the next election.

I realize that the constitution authorizes the president to kill anyone he chooses...if that is the legal justification for this then that is what it is...my question to sanity and now to you is how do you feel about that? I have not suggested anything...I asked how you felt about the government having that kind of power...how would you feel if your name was next on the list?
