Brain -> Muslim Actress Reportedly Receives Threats for Playboy Pictorial (5/3/2011 2:17:50 PM)

This is a great Muslim woman because she has a lot of courage. Maybe some Muslim women here already know about her.

Sila Sahin, a 25-year-old Turkish German living in Berlin, has been branded a "whore" and a "Western slut" after appearing topless on the cover of the magazine's May 2011 issue, The Sun reports.

AFAIK, there are no Muslim women in the forum.

It's a career move.  I wonder if she's planning to use some of the notoriety to make a move to the US.

As long as it wasn't my sister... I am good.

Pick one.

(A) They still print Playboy?

(B) People still read Playboy?

(C) Up until this who knew?

I think death threats are always wrong, but at the same time, how many people pose nude proclaiming they are Christians?

Some claim hope for this society, pardon if I don't see it here.

Some brat making his fortune from being in the least wise in contrivance to Victorian sensibilities, while continental Europe wonders why grown men in the UK or US still  have this stuff top of their mind at such a late age.

Exactly.

Some move beyond Jr. high school, others don't. Fortunes can be made upon the latter. Congratulations, Mr. Hefner.

Actually I think he was referring to the fact that she didn't immediately quit because someone said they didn't like what she was doing.

This Lady looks hot.Why do some Muslims cultures want to make such beautiful Women wear robes and headscarfs to cover their body?Thats what happens when religous nutjobs run the show.Just note, that is ANY religous extremist at that.

Hello Charles,

A woman's body is her temple. This is not just a Muslim belief; many other religions - Hassidic Jews, Mormons, some Christians, etc (just off the top of my head) have the same belief about women (and men) covering theselves. The sharing of a woman's body is to be with her husband alone for it is a sacred thing, the body. So, too, do the men need to wear modest clothing.

Secondly, there is nothing "nutjob" about wearing the hijab. Many MANY women CHOOSE to do so because they want to be seen as people rather than women, as thoughtful, interesting, intelligent people instead of sex objects. Women in Western society are judged by their looks. One of the ways some women counter that narrow POV is to cover themselves, to celebrate some other part of themselves.

Your post shows a tremendous lack of understanding of the social, cultural, and religious underpinnings of the hijab.

Best,
sunshine

Charles6682 -> RE: Muslim Actress Reportedly Receives Threats for Playboy Pictorial (5/4/2011 6:41:32 AM)

If its a personal choice that the lady wants to wear the hijab,I see nothing wrong with that.I am talking about cultures that force women to wear the hijab against their will.As for the body is a temple, your right.I wasn't trying to imply that they should get naked like this 1 lady did for the enjoyment of men and some women. They should have that choice though,to wear or not wear what they want. Not to be forced to be treated as less than human. It didn't work good for America when women were treated unfairly here and it can't shouldn't work anywhere else.

Edwynn -> RE: Muslim Actress Reportedly Receives Threats for Playboy Pictorial (5/4/2011 6:52:34 AM)

I'm not sure if the promotion of the idea that women are to be considered as how they might please the juvenile male sensibilities before we get to what women are in any other regard is any actual 'progress' beyond the religious or cultural sensibilities that look at it a different way.

PS

Didn't mean to be a party pooper there. At this site in particular, all's fair, and some ladies and gents both are all over many different role plays, temporary or lifetime. My comment was about society in general.

What if a Muslim is "forced" to wear a hijab based on cultural standards? So what? We have our own cultural standards. Women are forced to wear certain clothes based on the standards wear you live. You don't seem to be denouncing those. Or hadn't you noticed?

How is wearing clothes being treated as less than human? How many animals do you see running around in clothes?

Do you really think that American women are not treated unfairly? And why should YOUR AMERICAN standard be the standard for other places? Perhaps really what should happen is that in the USA, people should adopt the standards of other places. It is no different than what you are saying. Who are you, to put YOUR norms / values / culture as the ONE that others ought to follow. Who is the USA to do that? This is one of the reasons the USA is SOOOOoooo reviled in the world. This kind of "our way is the ONLY way" arrogance ... the rest of the world hates us because of it.

What makes you think that just because something doesn't work in one place that it can't work in another? That is pretty narrow minded.

Finally, the woman in the article - the GERMAN woman that you are ogling is NOT required to wear a hijab. Even in TURKEY (that's her heritage, not her citizenship) women are not required to wear the hijab. I believe you are thinking of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In case you don't realize it, KSA is on a DIFFERENT CONTINENT.

best,
sunshine
