Oh he is not a clone of Bush, he just has been demonized by some Canadians and media. Canada is the mouse next to the elephant and it needs a strong Prime Minister, not a wishy washy one like some of the previous PMs. Harper is the only one strong enough.

Jack Layton scares the poop outta me with his plan to tax and spend. He is an NDPer from BC and when the NDP was in power in British Columbia they killed the economy there thru their mis-management, ineptness and favoritism to big unions. It was disgusting and demoralizing. As a result of what they did there, BC became a have-not province and had to go on bended knee begging Ottawa for handouts. People and business left in droves for Alberta and other provinces.

Imo, if the NDP ever becomes the governing party for Canada, they will do the very same thing to the whole country as what they did to BC. When public employees contracts come up for renewal, the unions will get their payday when the NDP give in to their demands. In other words, what is happening in California with public sector workers will happen in Canada under the NDP.

In California the govt is so broke its had to handout IOUs, its had to cut days off for education cuz it cant afford to pay the teachers, it has cut offices down like DMV which are closed on Fridays, it is telling the unions, we dont got the $ to pay those pensions in a few years when those employees retire.

I dont want that kind of debacle to happen to Canada. Harper isnt perfect and some people will not like some of what he has to do but no politician can be all things to all people. Anyway, I like him, I dont necessarily agree and support everything he does but he does do more for the country than previous PMs. He wouldnt have been able to hold a miniority govt for 5 years and now in a majority for another 4 years if he didnt do a pretty good job, especially keeping Canadas economy humming when other countries are going broke, etc.

Just my opinion on the whole thing.

Canada is wising up. Now their conservatives are not nearly as conservative as they should be, unless you count the alberta ones. They are fine, for the most part. Still too much socialism in canada, but hey I wish em luck.

I voted and I met Iggy who the Canadian people didn't like because of conservative attack ads before the election which he did not respond to because the liberal party didn't have the money unlike the conservatives who get a lot of money from banks and oil companies. Because Canadians didn't vote Liberal they went further to the left and voted for the NDP. It was unacceptable to most Canadians who could not vote Liberal to hold their nose and vote Conservative.

This first attack ad is the one which hurt him the most and it ran before the elections started for several weeks with no reply because the Liberal party had no money and it makes him seem like a selout/traitor.

It may be okay if Harper and the conservative party overreach because the rebound may be the NDP or New Democratic Party which is to the left of the Liberal party but will do much more to improve the lives of ordinary Canadians or the middle-class rather than banks and oil companies which don't need more tax cuts but Harper will give them billions of dollars of tax cuts anyway.

It means the end of days in Canada. Harper has already closed multiple national museums and art schools.
Water, timber, electricity and minerals will be privatized and sold to the highest bidder.
The only bad news for America is that it will be the Chinese.

I am not quite sure why but the NDP surged in the last week or two from the polls I saw.
I've been doing the polls in Quebec through the whole election, and the NDP was ahead all the time from the responses we got (yeah we do discuss the interesting surveys we do).

As to the rest of your post..well lets just say I disagree. I can't wait for an NDP Government.

You ain't the only Socialist here. Although I recognize that the Social Democracies of Western Europe are more practical.

I don't agree with you. Rather than wising up I think Canadians are dumbing down and I hope in the future they will regret voting for Harper as much as Americans were disappointed with George W. Bush.

Hi Brain

You do see what has happened in America... Yes the electorate was disappointed in Bush but it did not stop them in the last election from voting conservative.

I think you need to separate ideas from individuals or you may be disappointed in the future.

Hi right back at you. When Americans are unhappy with Democrats rather than vote Republican if it were me I would vote for a progressive candidate, not that my opinion matters.

As an outsider,it seems alot of the more liberal voters in Canada were dividing up their votes bewteen different parties. In the end,Prime Minister Stephen Harper took advantage of that situation and won the elections, fair and square.Thats how democracy works.I wasn't too happy with the results from Americas own elections in 2010 but hey, majority vote win.Sometimes the person or party you want wins some and loses some.

harper majority= a new era, a dictatorship, yes dictatorship! his first act as a dictator will be to change 'Canada Goverment' to 'harper government' something he already attemted as a minority.

1) Scrap Universal Day-Care

2) Drastically Cut Status of Women Canada

3) Cancel the Court Challenge

4) Axe Women’s Right to Pay Equity

5) Leave Abortion out of Canada’s G8 Maternal Health funding

6) Appoint Fewer Women to Cabinet than Previous Governments

7) Take away Gay Rights

8) Gagging the Media

And who knows what else is on his HIDDEN agenda

it saddens Me to see what My country will be like very soon, My Country that I love and was always so proud of.

I dont think he will get far or even try to challenge any of the rights in the charter, or the UN Human rights declaration.
I see I may well be out protesting more tho.

Liberals can't win unless candidate is French Canadian. I thought that they would have learned that

True, but then again the Party went belly up with Stephane Dion, but it is more that lead to their demise.

I think it will help you understand it is not an individual that is leading a nation in the wrong direction...but that the nation is wanting a leader to lead in the right direction. Bush was the wrong man in my opinion but the people are still looking. Getting rid of Bush will not change their mind set. This is why we still have a conservative ground swell in America.

Rather you concentrate on the failings of an individual you should address the reasons for the conservative movement at large...in America and Canada.
