What kind is a good bang for the buck.  I need to go shopping.

Omniseed -> RE: Would anyone here like a glass of wine? (5/3/2011 6:38:23 PM)

I actually really like the Black Box malbec, also Lucky Duck (malbec and tempranillo) are pretty good, both kinds you can get about four bottles (or four bottles worth of Black Box) for $20. I'm most down with Argentine and Spanish wines, seems like you cannot find a badly done Argentine wine, even if it isn't spectacular.

Wine Library TV - This guy rocks and he likes to suggest the "bang for your buck" types.

I like to keep a few bottles of Santa Rita 120 Chardonnay around, both for cooking and drinking.

When you live the straight-edge lifestyle like me, you will be happier to know that your back-breaking days are not wasted to douse your mental anguish behind self-destructive addictions.  In fact, I suggest that instead of shopping for wine or beer that you shop for nice purified water.  I like Fiji.

If there is a TraderJoes or an Aldi's in your area, they both have some decent wines in the $3.00 to $6.00 per bottle range.

^  in PA wine and spirits are sold at state stores.  -->  They are experimenting with grocers but it is limited- and not at Aldis for now.

I'm very glad to be living in Wisconsin. Lots of bars and lots of liqour stores. If they don't sell beer at an event in Milwaukee, no one will show up.

Here's a bit of reading whilst you enjoy your bottle o' Fiji.........Fiji Water: Spin the Bottle

My everyday drinking and cooking wine is Yellowtail, an Aussie brand that is great quality for the price. They offer drinkable Chardonnay and Shiraz for $6-7 a bottle.

If you can go $12-15, I would suggest Kendall Jackson Chardonnay (a very well known brand) or perhaps Genesis (Brand name) Meritage (blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Malbec) Red Table Wine. Both are excellent wines and well worth the increased price tag if/when you can afford it.

If you really want to know about wine, however, go to the library and do some research and then start tasting. The best wine is a wine *you* like.

I'll second Yellow Tail for good tasting wine at a good price.

I am going to write down these names....

And it is a bit of a ...well- it draws attention to oneself to be seen going into one of those stores.  It is more of a gawk then going into the adult book store- because people think you are a drunk if you shop there.  So to get in and out is my plan.

Innit. At a low point in my time as a cheapskate student I bought a bottle of £1.99 Rose from Aldi. I drank it all over the course of a 20 minute train journey. It did the trick.

I like Aldis.   They even sell EU chocolate.

How old are you? My family is from WV, where they also have the state store. Get over yourself, it's a bottle of wine for frigging sake.

I think you could benefit from a glass of water.

I am 47.        :-)   Maybe it is different since I moved across the river.   At the old place-   ....it may as well been a dry county.    The only people who drink are ones who are in and out of jail.   A portion of the houses wont even allow booze in the house of any type.    (let alone to actually drink it)

What a bunch of pussies!  He wants "bang" for the buck.  Not one of you cretins mentioned the best cheap wine that has "bang".  The truly cultured in cheap wines all prefer Night Train Express 17.5% alcohol

Poor but acceptable substitutes:
Thunderbird 18% alcohol
Richards Wild Irish Rose 18% alcohol
MD 20/20 (Mad Dog) 18% alcohol

No . . . not Ripple!  It's only 11% alcohol.
No . . . not Cisco! It's not wine, it's a beverage (wine cooler) with 13% - 19% alcohol.

*Beware the Thunderbird, MD & Wild Irish Rose wine versions that are only 13% alcohol.

(for those that don't know I am joking . . . seriously, what were you thinking?)

Interesting post  ^

I did not ask about wine coolers tho?  LOL.   Who wants to pay for a pretty bottle with sugar water?
