Aneirin -> What causes a person to hate ? (5/4/2011 6:27:22 PM)

Hate is a powerful word, a negative word and a destructive word, but what causes the word to be used ?

And in terms of the ongoing celebration at a man's death on this forum, a man who is said to hate the west, why is it he hated it so much, what caused him to hate ?

Did the west perchance give him a reason to hate it ?

DomYngBlk -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 5:23:31 AM)

He hated it cause he liked it and was attracted to it so much. I also think he "hated" it cause intially it gave him power and influence that seemed at the time never ending.  I think if asked these past few years his "hate" would be quite muted. His revolution in tatters and bogged down into making small attempts to regain past glories.

In my experience, hate comes from violated trust.

Hate, like love, takes work to maintain, and comes from the person hating.

It's a shield, to avoid facing the real emotional issues.

~~ FR~~ It wasn't about hate, it was about power.  Hate was simply the manipulation used to gain followers.

There have been many interesting biographical articles and television programmes, over the last 10 or so years, that will answer your questions.

At its very core, I think hate, the real hate ( in its sincerest form), not the stuff that you're told to feel, is like a poison in your soul that you can't get rid of. It takes a certain type of betrayal, or disappointment, or even mistrust, to make someone feel hate.

LaTigresse -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 9:26:46 AM)

I actually feel sorry for people that have that brewing and festering inside them. It does nasty things to the body and soul.

Termyn8or -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 9:53:52 AM)

That's why I like you Tigresse. Tigresses can maim, kill, tear and devour fluffy little animals and feel no hate whatsoever. Really it's nothing personal when a lion eats a llama alive, business is business.

But if everyone wants my real answer, fear causes hate. Period. Your eyes see and your ears hear that which is unknown, of course it must be destroyed.

And you all thought we weren't animals. LOL.

Mezrem -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 10:45:02 AM)

Hate is a natural byproduct of being human. It like love motivates people into action. He claimed to hate us for our excesses and hedonism as much as for our involvement in countries in the middle east. There is a belief among some in the USA that if we did not do ______ and tried to make peace with those who believe this, the threat will disappear. I believe that this fundamentalist element of Islam is no different then some of the National Socialist's being cranked out in the US. In one case they will not be happy so long as we are not under Islamic Government  and in the other they will not be happy so long as their white power ideals do not become reality. Both of these examples are to my  eyes unacceptable outcomes and so I will do what I can and support those who will keep it from happening.

Now before you flame on me for the Islam comments know I do not now or have ever said or believe that all of those following Islam are with these nut bags. It is the same as those fools who handle snakes and drink poison... crazy folks in every group.

There are many things that cause hate, fear is only one.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 11:20:39 AM)

I sort of agree with Term on this one. In my opinion hate,like all emotions, is caused by other humans, and our reactions to them. In this case I do think this mans hate came from fear of what he did not understand.

Fellow -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 11:30:21 AM)

Declaring certain natural human emotions taboo is an interesting phenomenon. Hate is bad, pessimism not allowed, nationalism a crime, one has to smile constantly (genuine or not), certain words can not be used... and so on. At the same time: greed is good, ignorance and stupidity understandable, hypocrisy OK, a pharisee equals a normal person and so on. Emerging (stealth) totalitarian state is in need of humans trained into certain mindset, equipped with invisible restraints to ensure a narrow predetermined  range of behavior.

The ability to dismiss something/one by claiming hate toward it comes from pride.

No one is responsible, but those making the claim.

LaTigresse -> RE: What causes a person to hate ? (5/5/2011 12:01:06 PM)

All I know and the only place I can speak from, is my own personal experience.

I have seen what hate does to people. It is one of several, very negative and destructive, emotions/state of mind, that I will not allow myself to carry around. It has nothing to do with taboo, just personal preference.

What others do, is of no consequence to me.

Oddly enough, wishing bad things on, or being uncaring about another person's suffering or death only really occurs with me.....when I am at a point of not caring about that person one way or another. Or, I recognize more negative qualities in a person than good, perhaps even a certain sadistic interest in seeing them suffer for things they have done.......but still inside I don't have any emotion towards them.

There have been people who have hurt/threatened those I love. I would still not say 'I hate them.' Rather, it is a desire to retaliate or even destroy, to eliminate. Thereby eliminating any further threat to others. Knowing they cannot hurt anyone again, type of drive. But once the situation is resolved, I quickly go back to a very positive and balanced place inside myself. I can even spend time around that person/s, if required, and be sociable.

I just refuse to carry around any negative energy for any length of time. I prefer to deal and resolve, then move on.

Yes, fear of encroachment can cause hate, whether the encroachment is perceived to be political, religious, racial, sexual orientation, etc.

Such fear is learned from one's exposure to a particular environment over an adequate period of time. You aren't born hating liberals, Muslims, Arabs, gays, etc.

What the Tigresse said.

Hate is like drinking poison to harm an opponent.
