Guess I have a sense of humour deficit because I still don't see quite how that is a joke... [8|]

Person 1: Do you have contempt for this category of thing?
Person 2: Do you have contempt for this other category of thing?
Person 3: Do you actually rather like this thing in general?

Nothing? No?

...nevermind. I'd go with the deficit. Maybe you're just too Anglophobic.

No sorry no comprende. Perhaps you are overthinking the joke?

Could you also be suggesting that the Brits invented comedy or are the sole nation to possess a good sense of humour? [:D]

No, just that that particular flavour of understatement is sometimes held to be an English thing. But hey, like I said. Never mind. Don't worry about it.

ETA: also, it's 'decor' either side of the pond. And your assessment of gay men is insulting - I'd assume your own assessment of yourself as an asshole was pretty spot on.

Just noticed the edit to your previous post: that was actually a joke about "decour". That should have been clear and BTW I don't hate the British - that was part of the joke. I was actually referring to Domi's characterisation of gay males when a lot contrast with that. Its only homophobic if you also think shows like Will and Grace or Queer Eye for the Straight Guy also are. [8D]

Well that would be wrong wouldn't it? ... and sorry there is one thing I dislike about the British - a certain cultural snobbery many seem to possess.

Well given that you didn't get it, it would seem to be true in your particular case.

That hardly qualifies as a proof. I may well have a humour deficit or it could just as easily be the case that your er... "joke" wasn't funny. [;)]

LaTigresse -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 6:15:38 PM)

It was funny. Even a dense little ole midwestern US citizen like me got it.

You, on the other hand, appear to be an overly sensitive boor with no sense of humour. Forgive me if I misread your intent.

Funny I thought you would weigh in with an insulting message when I saw you viewing the thread lol. No need to forgive - doesn't really matter in the slightest how you interpret my posts. Here's a revelation: humour is a subjective thing - some get certain jokes and others don't. Others may disagree but I don't think it was obviously a play on two other threads in different sections.

From the original post:

quote:

So, after the 'let's give multiple idiots multiple platforms to explain why they don't like whole subsections of the male population' debacle, let's be a bit more cheerful. Dominant, submissive, whatever - I quite like men, you know?

Don't know how I could have made it much clearer to anyone who actually reads the forums.

D'oh I read the OP but ages ago so must have forgotten that part. My apologies and its humorous even if it doesn't quite qualify as a joke IMHO. Just remember I didn't get pissy about how it was put - it was merely a point about common dislike/criticism of males in general which you also made above - in fact I said it was a good thread. The joke around this house is they are for car repair, lawn maintenance, and anything to do with electronics.  I have the ability to do things in those areas.  I just don't want to.

I don't know how I didn't see this first time round . . . .

So . . . what can you do, electronics-wise, LP? I'm just interested, that's all. :-)

You did not feel it was obvious........nearly everyone else did. It is obvious to ME who has the issue/s and who does not.

What was your previous name here?

Did you bother at all to read post 90 (the second above your post), and did you take a straw poll amongst the posters on here? I think its obvious you are the one who has issues. You take issue with someone who hasn't done you or anyone else on here any wrong (I wasn't even critical of the OP) and even admit you enjoy seeing others get upset on here. I'm not looking for a fight with anybody as its a total waste of time but I have to say thats an ugly character trait to say the least. Although new to the forum I have been a member of CM for over two years.

LaTigresse -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 8:39:22 PM)

Sooooooo, you got the hots for me eh?

The only issue I've got right now is that it is 10:37 pm on a Sunday night and I don't want the fabulous weekend I've had to end but alas......if I don't get to bed pretty soon I will be a bit cranky tomorrow.

I don't want to be cranky.

Enjoy your evening.

WantsOfTheFlesh -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 8:46:22 PM)

That's fine. BTW the post Vaguely Curious seemed to object to was 90% joking so I was sorry to see it cause an angry response. I rarely post on this forum for anything more than having a bit of fun.

Yep! Count me in for the already mentioned reasons, too.

Plus, a real cock is always better than an imitation! [:D]

sexyred1 -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 8:58:04 PM)

I am one of those women who does not care about what a man can do for me; I can kill my own bugs, hook up a DVD player, get a stool to reach a higher shelf, etc. If a man offers to do those things, lovely.

I like some men for how they look, taste and smell.

I like some men for how they make me feel.

I like some men for how they make me laugh.

I like some men for how they make me think.

The details of the above are as varied as the individuals I am thinking about.

WantsOfTheFlesh -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 9:06:48 PM)

Cool! Those are nice sentiments and you've helped restore my faith in the fairer sex! [:)]

Now girl, you do make sure of course, these men...do not know each other...correct ?

It's not.  They're women.  Humour is not their forte.  The thread is a kind of whiny passive-aggressive thing which ultimately turned out to be a vehicle for demonstrating how mercenary they are.  Apparently they like men because they're useful.  Character traits are irrelevant.  I'm somewhat amused by the irony.
