Status: offline 		I hated my middle name growing up because I was convinced it was a boys name. I also did not like my first name because my sisters had named me after this television show.....

I like both of them now. I have no idea what (if anything either of them mean).

Status: offline 		Mom wanted my name to be same as one of her grandfathers.  The nickname is too laughable for a kid in school in the 50s.  Dad wanted Jr., but Mom would NOT hear of that.  His 2nd choice was "Lance" and again, Mom's veto over-rode that choice - she did NOT like the sexual image.... So they compromised on two "half-names," coming up with an easy to mis-pronounce 1st name.  NO ONE I've ever known has this name.  Some more common names are close but no cigar.  (My name is frequently misspelled as one of those.)  Recently Google DID come up with ONE guy on East Coast, (much my junior in years.)    

Do NOT wish for an unusual name.  I am sooooo tired of explaining it.  Female clerks invariably say, "Oh that's beautiful."  BLEAH.....  I just "go by" the first part - my Dad's Jr. - even that can be spelled 2 ways.... ::: sigh :::
 
P.S. Hughes is my maiden Great-Aunt's last name, and reflects my 1/4 pure Welsh heritage.  She was kinda an Auntie Mame character in my life.
 
ETA: Being born on St.Patrick's day, you'd think Patrick would be a good choice, y'know..... But that very, very Irish name did NOT suit my 1/2 Welsh father as you might well imagine. LOL!  Edward (which is my middle name) would have been an okay choice by me.  Thus "Edward Richard" would have been just fine - Dad's middle name for  a hint of Jr., Mom's Grandfather.

Status: offline 		I very much enjoy my unusual name. I stopped getting upset when people mispronounce it or misspell it or even give me another name altogether because they can't remember Linea. I started a new job a few years back & my first day on the job, my new boss took me around & introduced me to what seemed like hundreds of people, telling them I was Leanne. I didn't bother to correct her after my first attempt. I just let her believe she had it correct. A few days later, she discovered her mistake & descended on me with "Why didn't you say something???" I told her because it didn't really matter to me overmuch & I was sure that everyone would straighten it out in a few days' time.

That turned out to be the case except for one woman who I had dealings with for the entire 5 years I was on that job. She insisted my name was pronounced "lanai". I tried correcting her a couple of times, then gave up & just agreed to be Lanai for her.

Status: offline 		Ha ha... I had something similar Linea - I was working in a place where the lady used to call me Jules. It made me crazy. At last I said to her, "Please call me Jennifer. It's what I prefer." What did she start calling me? Julia. Well, she got the idea that I liked the FULL name instead of the shortened version, but still... she used a completely different name than mine.

(Of course my name isn't Julia or Jennifer... but you get the point).

Although being unusual, I always have to spell and pronounce it, usually several times before people get it right.
But I think it suits me now.

Yeah I like my name.

I have christian parents and they named me after a saint; I like that. Twice, in fact: christian and middle names.

And, I like my parents, and so I have no problem with my parents naming me.

And, I'm a simple person, and my name has only 4 letters - I like that: clear, concise and efficient.

And, I have an English name, and I like England, and so that helps.

And, it's a name that transcends national boundaries, and so I'm truly international (although I'd rather not be French, so you may have something there).

Status: offline 		Whenever I am doing business & they ask for my name, I simply give them the spelling of each of them. Because even if they know the 2 names, they are both spelled oddly. It is amazing to me how often both names tend to get misspelled anyway, particularly the last name, which is somewhat more common in this country but with a different spelling. When I was working with surgeons, a Dr called me one day whose last name was the more common spelling of mine. I told him I had the same name as his, but he misspelled his. His reply: "Oh, your name is Doctor too???"

HATED my given name as a child, insisted on the diminuitive.

NOW I hate the nickname...  Use of the nickname is limited now to family and dearest/oldest friends (read: anyone that has known me more than 30 yrs/)

Surname is a bastardization of the great greats last name because my GG Grandpa's writing was illegible at Ellis...

Status: offline 		I like my name, though whilst living in english speaking countries it was a pain sometimes as it got badly changed into a girly-girl style word when folks swallowed my e or exchanged it to a "y", on top of that I can't stand what I can read online as the meaning, so I don't really bother to go into that one

But in general, over here I like it and can say that it is the right name for me

I am told that we were 4 girls with my name during kindergarden (I cant remember that as this was in my first kindergarden not my second one after we moved) but during school days I was always the only one with my name in my classes, so I am happily fine with mine
