It's Chronicles. Anyway, there are many reasons why I'm not going to get into the theology of Satan in the Old Testament, but you have to start with Job. Job is the only place in the Old Testament where Satan says anything.

The "loyal opposition" tack I've come to believe as the most likely, as this fits well with the implications of Job and explicit references in midrash (as well as ancient regional religious trends).
