What are you talking about?  You "bashed" Baptists and Catholics too.

Anyway, I don't really see the value in "bashing" any religion, and I'm going to end this one.  If it excites you to feel that you know the One True Word, and everyone else's beliefs are hogwash, you'll have to do that alone.

And I'm an atheist.

It doesn't =). Don't conclude until you ask questions. But thank you anyway.

Baptists and Catholics, whose views you just called "hogwash" (that is, after misrepresenting them), are Christians too.

Hell dude, I just bashed Pentecostals...however it's spelled and I was born and raised in their church.

Hey, are you talking about me? You've been talking to my sub haven't you?

quote:

In reading the old and new testaments you find the bible to be full of contradictions.

I have heard this statement a hundred times and never have found anyone who said it that actually read the bible clear through even one time.

I personally have studied  religion for almost 40 years, I have read the bible clear through 7 times and have campared different versions of the bible with other versions, page for page, reading several versions at the same time.

I also have went to as many different religious congregations as I could, from Catholic, Luthern, Penacoastal, Jehovah Witnesses, Baptist, Methodists, United Brothern and etc.

I do want to say this, I can certainly understand why many people do not believe in the bible or God or Jesus.  There are many interpretations of the bible and many people who are in the same religion that believe differently.

One such case is the word hell in the bible.  There are 3 words that was interpreted as hell and found in the scrolls 31 times.  In some of these interpretations the words were used as "hell" and at other times  "grave" mostly.

What some don't realize is back in the days when the scrolls were written, fire was used as a symbol of everlasting destruction and not always fire literally.  For example, in the "lake of fire" that is the second death that is not meant to be an actual fire but a symbol of everlasting destruction.

Now, here is something else I had trouble with...It states in the bible "God is Love".  Now for me to think of  love doesn't mean that someone would allow their "children" to burn in everlasting torment.
I know regardless of what my children did that I thought was wrong, I wouldn't take them and put them in a big microwave and just let them burn there forever in torment. (I might a sub though LOL).  So, that is why I did such an intense search on the words that was tranlated to hell and fire and grave.

I hate to disagree and start an arguement with a fellow Dom but there is plenty of scientific evidence that some of what happened in the bible was a fact.  For example, the Red Sea has actually went from water to land and back to water again in a very short time.

I can add a hundred proven scientific evidence examples if you wish of things that are stated in the bible, and none of them are from any religious books.

Another thing you have to realize is the bible wasn't just written in a few years after Jesus was on earth,  The bible was written in a period of over 1600 years by 40 different writers in 66 books of the bible.  When most people think of a bible is the King James Version here in the U.S. and England and several other countries.

King James wanted a bible named after him, when the group was done writing a bible for him, one man came up and said  the bible was interpreted wrong.  The man was tared and feathered and sent on his way.  No other man in the group was brave enough after that to discuss it any more, even though they knew it was wrong in some parts.  So, if you are going to study the bible then you have to get other versions that wasn't taken from the King James version and compare.

As far as everlasting life as stated in the bible, it has nothing to do with sins as some has stated.  Everlasting life is a gift from God as stated in the bible, you don't earn it and can't earn it, it is a gift.

Yes, you can be forgiven for your sins due to Christ's death that gave us a way to be saved but even some of the great men in the bible did not go to heaven even though they were forgiven for their sins, as stated in the bible. Again, it is a gift.

So, am I a Christian?  Well, it depends on what you would call a Christian.  If you call a Christian someone who believes in God, then I would be a Christian.  One thing you have to remember is Satan believes in God too.

If you say a Christian is someone who does what the bible says you're supposed to do and live their life according to the bible then no, I am not a Christian.  This is my interpretation of what a true Christian is.

Let's talk a little about these TV people like Oral Roberts, Pat Robinson, Levi Jenkins, Jimmy Swaggart and others.  What a crock, now if you really believe they are ministers of God then you need to read the bible yourself and not depend on what they are telling you.  Oral Roberts, if he didn't get 3 million dollars in donations God was calling him home....what a crock!  Then later he says the Devil made him do it.  Yeah, after he got his 3 mil.

Pat Robinson, where in the bible does it state his political views that he tells his followers?  Levi Jenkins, been in prison, married a 80 year old weathy woman to get her money, evicted out of Ohio, told his followers he could go to bed with any woman in his congregation.....what the hell is that shit? Jimmy Swaggart. what a jewel, was caught with a hooker, cried on TV and said how sorry he was and then shortly after caught with a hooker again.  Pretty sorry huh? Then everyone wonders why people don't believe in christianity.  Get a clue!  What wonderful people we have as examples.

I am glad to say, I have found some people who actually live their lives according to the bible but they are few and far between.  Most say they'rer Christians, go to church on Sunday and holidays and then go home, beat their wife, get drunk go out and have sex and then go to church the next Sunday just like they did before. Yes, I agree they are Hypocrates (sp).

RedRedWine -> RE: End of Days. (5/15/2006 4:45:05 PM)

And I agree with you. That's why I am so picky and tight-assed about going to a church because many of them are full of two-faced people. I even know of one who tries to make their teens sign a contract stating that they will save their virginity until they are married! Talk about a mind/emotion breaker. And bet you anything the people who are making them sign are people who had sex even before marriage! (Referring to your last pargraph)

And I can understand easily why people would turn away from Christianity. I have a friend who turned away because all she saw in her family were people leading double lives.

So it seems lol.... I seldom speak of money, but the other two are liable to get dragged out on occasion. Sure sparks things up, and it's rare to find those that can talk about them withour rancor.

MrMister, all I ask is that people speak their mind with respect toward others. If a person does that, then how others react is on them.

You are correct. Something else to consider; benji just posted his 666 post this evening. I wonder what the significance of that is. [:-]

Ok So how do You get the Smily face boxer?

Devinci Code is coming.
Along with June 6 2006

What happened June 6th  1966?

Or June 6th 1766?

Or June 6th 1666?

Always, Ant[;)]

Lordandmaster -> RE: End of Days. (5/15/2006 10:06:25 PM)

Or better yet, June 6, 666?

I guess it depends on which calendar you're using.  Numerology quickly loses its appeal when you realize that everyone's on a different calendar, doesn't it?

So far no-one has actually explained WHY they believe in a God....or what prompts them to.....The people that do NOT believe in a God can explain why they do not...

Now, if you had a truly christian outlook, you'd not be judging these people.........the mother asking the child to save themselves for marriage may be thinking of their child's welfare and have the very best of intentions, through their own experience of NOT waiting ( only God would know this, as he knows every thought)

I'm not sure how someone can turn away from christianity (God) because of how humans behave.......surely it's meant to be about your *personal relationship with God* not about how others around you are behaving? If you have a conviction and belief in a God, it must be a flimsy one if this happens.
