For those who know someone who had hair transplant surgery (not a toupe or sewn on wig), how can you or anyone tell since it's implanted in the scalp and not sewn on?

You folks DO realize that the main cause of premature male pattern baldness is overproduction of testosterone. (just a coincidence that I started losing hair at age 20)

I'm guessing it'll only be a few years before I'm pretty bald. I know nothing about my maternal side (due to adoption) but my mother was thinning pretty badly the last time I saw here, so I probably will too. On one hand I'm a wee bit horrified at the idea, but on the other hand I know I'll get used to it and it'll just be the way I am. I'll probably just cut it really close and grow a wicked goatee to polish the look a bit.

My hair is so darn thick, even at my advanced age, that I seriously wish some of it would fall out. If 1/3 was gone, I'd have a normal head of hair. Any takers? lol

My dad is mostly bald with a skullette, my mom has some baldness in her family. But I decided a while back that if I do ever go bald, I'm just gonna shave it. Though from the looks of things, that won't be a problem

yes I would. Why? I'm vain My sister has alopecia and we've been told it could possibly be genetic. She used to wear wigs while taking meds for it. It eventually grew back but never as thick and she still loses patches when she's extremely stressed. So there's always the possibility one day that my hair will thin even more than it is already. I have thin hair to begin with. If it happens then hell yeah....transplants, extensions (which I'm already planning on getting in a few months just to make it thicker), whatever it takes.

The amount of hair a man has has never affected how attractive I find a man. It's all in the moves, so to speak. As a woman with an abundance of hair, I've never had to deal with thinning or loss of hair, thankfully. If you've seen my profile picture and it looks like I have a whole gob of hair, it's because...I do. I've always joked about how I long for baldness for women to be in fashion, I'd love to shave my head. I do feel bad for women who have thinning hair. We place so much emphasis on a woman's hair being her crowning glory and if theirs is thinning it tends to be the first thing we notice. If I was in that position I would more than likely be giving the bald thing a try.

They can't do all of it in one procedure. First round is the big stuff, second round is filling in, third round is the smaller pieces to make it look the most natural. At least that is how I understand it to be.

My hubby is practically bald now, I like it, he looks like a demented santa now or one of those garden gnomes (completely white beard and tache but not much on top) I have hugely thick long hair and my boys have inherited that I wouldnt want hubby to go thru the plug thing, Ive heard and seen some pretty gross outcomes I love bald bald men, very very sexy, until you arent. MY gynae shaves his head, he looks like bunsen honeydew until he smiles My cousin has alopecia she gets to wear a different wig every time she goes out, but I dont think it works so well with toupees.

Causes of alopecia include iron deficiency and thyroid issues. I'm anemic, and last year I switched from the Whole Foods brand of iron to the one given me by the VA and it turned out my body did not process this cheap crap as well. I started shedding a LOT - so much so that my housemate complained. I consulted with my aunt, who is a RN as well as knowledgeable about nutrients. She suggested I take blackstrap molasses for the anemia and consider if I might have an iodine deficiency, which affects the thyroid. Well, I don't eat processed foods and only use sea salt, which does not contain iodine, so a deficiency made sense to me too. Additionally, after I left my ex in 2009, I stopped regularly cooking with fish and soy sauce, which contain iodine. So I started adding seaweed gomasio to my diet as well, and voila, no more excessive shedding! Note: blackstrap molasses contains 5 times the iron of regular and has less sugar. I put a tablespoon in 2 C of tea instead of adding sugar (it's slightly less sweet than sugar). Oh, I used to be REALLY tired in the afternoons and this has gone away too :)
