kdsub -> RE: A bullet in the brain, is it questionble? (5/9/2011 6:41:18 PM)

I believe if he had raised his hands in surrender they would not of killed him. But I agree that if he put up any resistance they were given the ok to shoot to kill.

Now myself if I had this order... I rush into his room... A woman runs at me screaming...I shoot her in the leg, that was a blessing from a seal to this woman...bin Laden does not throw up his hands but moves in any direction, either to flee or get a weapon...he would be dead.

I do think the US hoped he would resist…Nothing wrong with that

Are you kidding? They had no other intention but to kill him. Yay. I am glad.

servantforuse -> RE: A bullet in the brain, is it questionble? (5/9/2011 6:45:27 PM)

I beleive that the orders were to kill him. Do we really want him in Gitmo with the rest of the terrorists ?

No

The questions become, when is the person a threat, and where does it stop?

Lucylastic -> RE: A bullet in the brain, is it questionble? (5/9/2011 6:54:25 PM)

The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist

I think Obama and the joint chiefs were praying he would not surrender...but I still believe if he had thrown up his hands in capitulation he would be alive today.

I do believe Obama is the type of man to honor surrender and not kill in cold blood...and I believe our seals are too. I may be gullible but I remember my training and the speech I received on lawful orders and killing unarmed surrendering combatants was one of them.

Do I think it has happened before …sure … but these were the best of our soldiers and there could not be a higher profile target… I believe all orders were lawful and followed to the letter.

Whether Obama gave the order, or the Seals made the decision, taking his head off was the right thing to do.

I am going to quote what I wrote elsewhere on a different OBL related thread.

quote:

I think his being dead is likely to cause less harm in terms of retaliation than his being alive.

Had he been captured then there would have been actions and attempted actions of terrorism to try to secure his freedom.
That can't happen now.

And as horrible and as fear driven as this may sound, as a war strategy, I can live with that.

Stalin defined a terrorist as anyone who disagreed with him.

Brain -> RE: A bullet in the brain, is it questionble? (5/9/2011 7:30:06 PM)

Nobody would expect Osama bin Laden to be taken alive and it is entirely possible he could have turned into a suicide bomber in order to destroy all the information on those computers and to kill those who were trying to arrest him. So you can question whatever you want but what happened isn't unreasonable.

International criminal court should certainly start investigation of the events.
At least the most hated man by US liberals N. Chomsky was not pleased:

Why would Noam Chomsky be the most hated by liberals? He IS a liberal.

hlen5 -> RE: A bullet in the brain, is it questionble? (5/10/2011 12:24:16 AM)

OBL himself said he would never be taken alive. With no interment, there is no shrine to him. He can't directly influence anyone anymore.

I imagine the definition of "resistance" was pretty darn liberal, and I think that's all for the best.

FR

So it is now established that the more heinous the crime, the less the burden of proof.

Then when the next enemy we manufacture goes even farther all it will take is finger pointing to exact the ultimate revenge, without even a thought.

That's OK, I already had that figured out, now I just want to see just how far it goes.
