No way the IRA were going to attack the soil of their benefactors, that would be cutting their own throats in terms of support

farglebargle -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 2:57:46 PM)

I guess that Peter King is forgetting about the time the IRA killed an American in London.

Ronald Reagan "wrote" Margaret Thatcher a note about it, and she replied thusly:

Unclassified

[Handwritten note by Robert McFarlane:]

Mr President
We sent a condolence message in your name when the bombing occurred.
Bud

[Telegram initialled as seen by the President:]
RR

Dear Ron

I was most grateful for your kind message of sympathy about the terrorist outrage in London on Saturday. We were deeply distressed at the loss of life of one American citizen and injuries to others.

The public’s reaction has been the same as the government’s – that the fight against terrorism must go on and be won.

Warm regards,
Margaret

Oh yes, I remember that terrorist at now, the one where an American was murdered, thoughts at the time were that's some of their funding gone.

Just like someone who sends first aid supplies to the political wing of Hamas, Peter King is guilty of providing material support to terrorists, and as such bears responsibility for EVERY CIVILIAN DEATH caused by the IRA.

I think political wing of Hamas is fateh
Hamas did came out of fateh,
they all came out of the PLO,
& yet Mr. Abbas (abu mazen) is fateh, so he is from the political wing of Hamas?

I am not ignoring it politesub...I asked him what it had to do with Muslims. And why he doesn't start another thread.

Maybe you would like to tell me why you think the IRA has anything to do with this thread?

Butch

Yes you are, and you continue to do so. He asked you directly if you consider the IRA terrorists or freedom fighters.

When you want to talk about the fear of Muslims...I am willing... If you want to talk about the IRA start another thread and I'll be glad to give my opinion.

Now if you can link the two to this thread do it and I’ll comment further.

Butch

What are you trying to say?

Butch

He asked you a direct question in post 23, which you have decided to ignore.

I am understanding by his silence and the fact that he brought up freedom fighter, he might be sympathetic to the 'cause'.

In which case, if you support terrorism against others, you then you should have no qualms about terrorism when it is visited on your own, because supporting terrorism is supporting terrorism.

nah, fool isnt calling you names, (Its part of the quote I started)
the fool part was in response to you trying to justify one single attack with 3000 deaths to nearly 40 years of random attacks on the minds of british people.
comparisons arent smart
but you dont get that,
my opinion is not invalidated by your inability to understand basic facts.
Be careful comparing suffering

Wow this is pretty incoherent! Calling someone a "fool" isn't calling someone names cause it was in a quote and/or related to another part of some such? [:D] So comparisons aren't smart and yet you are often the one bringing up the IRA etc. whenever anyone mentions Islamic terrorism. [:D] You are quite welcome to your opinion but its a pity you don't bother to see the other side of the argument. To be honest I don't like the self-pity because the IRA only strong became British troops brutalised and opened up on civilians protesting over very severe inequality in 1969. If the IRA typically targetted the machinations of the British state and gave warnings of bomb attacks typically that makes them significantly less criminal than al Qaeda. The IRA were fighting a force controlling their territory. Al Qaeda were not. I do not like the IRA but they are not akin to al Qaeda.

Gotta love denigration of other terrorism attacks because 3000 people didnt get killed at once.

quote:

Almost always the IRA has issued warnings to minimise casulties. They aren't good guys but as Patrick Kielty rightly said they are "gentleman terrorists" in comparison to al Qaeda.

Arrogance and ignorance in one idea
now thats class

The IRA did not kill anywhere near 3,000 people in its fourty years of activity. How about that? Ignorance? Pot kettle and all that but I can see this "discussion" will go nowhere. [;)]

We've had exclusion zones around our cities since the '70s to prevent that happening.
About the only thing of worth we've got out of the alleged 'special relationship" since the war, really.

Try telling that to somebody who lost a relative in one of the pub bombings during the '70s.

I agree what happened was appalling but that doesn't mean there are not different shades of terrorism even if they are abhorrent. Pub bombings happened on both sides - the Unionists enjoyed hitting a catholic bar or two as well.

Lucylastic -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:37:20 PM)

you are arguing against yourself, I never said the IRA were worse than al-quaeda.
Who is incoherent?

I didn't say you said the IRA were worse but you seemed to suggest they were just as bad. Anyway I've made my point so I'm off! [sm=modxiiswatching.gif]

Well I am sure that will make the families of the victims feel soooo much better.[8|]

Lucylastic -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:43:41 PM)

A public bar(pub) whose main clientele are catholics
in certain cities and towns there are quite a few
in my home town there were four I believe  2 distictly catholic and 2 distinctly protestant

catholic bar ???

Irish sectarian thing, ashjor. The Catholics and Protestants in the areas of Belfast where that trouble was brewed tended not to drink together, so they stuck to their own pubs instead of mingling too much. Hence there were catholic and protestant bars. You get that in Glasgow as well, but I think that might be more down to them having a catholic football team and a protestant one, than the same level of religious bile.

All I was saying was that there are shades of terrorism. Some acts of terror are more debased than others even if all are objectionable.

Drinking houses frequented mainly by Catholics!

They are just as bad. So glad that's cleared up[8D]

Moonhead -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:48:26 PM)

He's actually a very good actor: the poor bugger just got shafted by the Beeb stopping him from playing the dangerously unhinged time travelling nutcase he'd been hired to play, leaving him stuck with nothing more than a daft costume and some very bad scripts. (And Nichola Bryant's arse, at least until Bonnie Langford turned up...)
