SilverMark -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:54:07 PM)

I have read most of these posts and all I can think is that one man's Terrorist, is another man's Freedom Fighter...Have never really feared Muslims, Hindus, Siekhs, Mormons, Catholics....But those Baptists...they are a scary bunch!

Moonhead -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:56:23 PM)

A freedom fighter is a terrorist on your side. That's the only difference.

Aneirin -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 3:59:25 PM)

That's what I just don't get, there are no levels of terrorism, yet some seem to think so, the murdering of innocents is the same wherever they may be or whoever they are, there is not one bunch is worse than another bunch and that because they hit closer to home, murderers are murderers and that is that.

In fact, why not call murderers what they are, murderers, why call them something that could be a terrorist or freedom fighter depending on your outlook.

When the provisional IRA cause gargantuan acts of terror like jamming planes into skyscrapers then we can talk about comparisons! [;)]

Numbers dont come into it. A terrorist is a terrorist, that includes Muslims, Protestants and Catholics. Your knowledge of the troubles in particular and English/Irish history in general seems very scant.

kdsub -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/12/2011 7:05:53 PM)

Aneirin...you are the one that linked freedom fighter to the IRA not me...I was talking in general terms about terrorists and freedom fighters depending on the point of view. I said each country must decide who is and who is not… I did not link freedom fighter to the IRA. I was answering Lucy’s post about a terrorist is only a terrorist if they bomb the USA.

As far as the IRA they were on our terrorist list I believe and I still cannot see how the IRA should be linked to your thread.

I seems to me you are unfairly trying to put words in my mouth...I don't know how many times I have to say I will gladly post a comment to a thread on the IRA... but this thread is about Muslims...isn't it? Or did I read the thread heading wrong?

So remind me, what action was taken against Noraid prior to 2005?
Which Presidents blackballed Gerry Adams over Sinn Fein's links to the provos?
Which Cabinet members were ordered to stop attending Noraid fundraisers?

You didn't have any presidencies who made much of an effort to treat the fenians like they were on your terrorist list, put it that way. Nothing was done even when it emerged that they were receiving funding from evil middle eastern anti Americans as well as idiots in the mid west who thought that they're Irish despite their grandparents having fled the country to get away from the troubles.

They are linked because they are terrorists, that being terrorists are just that terrorists, there is no seperation, but as to what that has got to do with this thread, is the fact that it has come to my attention that many when they think or hear the words Muslim or Islamic, they think terrorist, which does a great disservice to the vast majority of the world's fastest growing religion and the people who adhere to that religion. Therefore, it is my attempt to say that when one associates a religion with terrorist actions against ourselves, one is then giving the green light to those who use the extremes of religion to further their imperialistic aims. Of which will undoubtedly result in further terrorism against ourselves, a situation where the common or garden man in the street will be cruelly slaughtered whilst the policy makers and augmenters sit safe in their fortressess, we are to all intents and purposes being used and guess what, like the last ten years, it will not benefit us one bit, so, it is your choice, red pill or the blue pill.

Those who use death and destruction to further their agenda, be it political or material aims are the terrorists, it is them we should guard against, as they have decided not to engage in democratic process, but to threaten and bully by force of arms to obtain what they want at the expense of the majority.

I therefore understand that those who had sympathy for the Irish Republican cause, which involved the death and destruction of people who had nothing to do with the policies augmented, as dispicable as the terrorists themselves. More so if they paid such criminal organisations more than thought and word, that being, even if you reached in your pocket to feel for change to a collecting tin proffered with the words 'it's for the cause sir', you enabled the death and suffering of innocent people. People who had nothing whatsoever to do with the policy makers except they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and there added further fuel to the designs of the policy makers, because believe it or not, they thrive on public hurt and anger, death and destruction it gives them a vitriolic sense of justice and right to cover their evils.

In fact, the FBI and DOJ don't care if there aren't any "real" terrorists involved.

If you go along with the FBI informants crazy ideas, and pony up a few bucks for supplies, you're guilty of providing material support to terrorists...

Shit, you send blankets and first aid supplies to non-military wings, you're still guilty, since the supplies on the non-military wing free up resources to be used by the active military units...

Don't blame me, it ain't my legislation...

the root meaning of terror is fear or technically "fright".  To frighten

so now we have laws that can hang you because some d7umb ass is afraid of their own shadow and blamed you for it.

like you said crime is crime and that is well defined and the shit they are promoting as law is police totalitarianism at its best

kdsub -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/13/2011 9:49:31 AM)

Thanks Aneirin for the explanation...it is all I asked. I understand where you are coming from. I believe you are wrong and the response to this thread should make that easier to see.

If someone talks of Islamic terrorists it does not mean they are associating all Muslims with terrorism. You may be...and of course there are more than a few in the US that may be… but the vast majority of Americans are not...how about over there in the UK?

If I have this right you are saying that Western powers and in particular the US are using the fear of Islam to further our imperial aggression. Yet on the other hand we as a nation if not directly supporting the actions of the IRA we were turning a blind eye. And if we are against one terrorist we should be against both.

I think you are full of crap about American imperialism…we hold no desire for the conquest of land…we have shown that over our existence and the facts prove it… We are a far cry from the imperialism of the British Empire would you not agree?

Doesn’t it seem ironic that you accuse the US of using religion for conquest when you did exactly that to Ireland?

You as a nation must live with your choices and fight your battles as you see fit. The IRA retaliated against you with terrorism and you fought them. Islamic terrorist attacked us and we are fighting them. It was your choice not ours to join and continue the fight so get out of it or quit bitching.

Personally I am against all terrorism by its very definition. I agree that we should try negotiation in all circumstances...but once you are attacked the time for negotiation is over.

DomYngBlk -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/13/2011 10:08:29 AM)

Not kidding. I mean look at yall. Live in perfectly good cities in perfectly good houses. What do you do? Up and move outside that nice city and rebuild that city again. Then you go somewhere and when asked where you are from.....you say the old city not the new one. Does that make any sense at all?

Moonhead -> RE: If You are Afraid of Muslims.......... (5/13/2011 1:59:30 PM)

There was a point in the late '90s when you couldn't find it on the internet for that very reason: the early "no cussing" programmes all blocked the place name.

We will have to differ over numbers. I think numbers matter hugely as they are almost always mentioned when concerning the seriousness of crimes involving death. I agree that terrorists are indeed terrorists but just as there are degrees of murder and manslaughter where it is recognised in law there are different levels of seriousness then it must be the case with terrorism also. One example would be the 7/7 bombings. The IRA would have been able to pull a similar stunt off with relative ease on many occasions over fourty years. If you think my knowledge of the troubles is scant then do advise if there is any facts I got wrong. [8|]
