Brain -> GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 5:12:04 AM)

It's important for the economy to recover fully to vote for the candidate or the political party which can make correct decisions and do what’s best for the country. Right now Republicans are doing what’s best for the Republican Party. For example, not helping General Motors because they wanted Obama and Democrats to fail and because they wrongly believe government is the problem as per Ronald Reagan.

Another example is preventing the confirmation of the Deputy Atty. Gen. which is hitherto unheard of. He is working now only because of a recess appointment and is needed for national security so his confirmation should not be delayed for political reasons.

GM said the investments over the next few years will create or preserve more than 4,000 jobs as it retools the plants in eight states. The company has 202,000 employees globally, including 77,000 in the United States.

Investors and analysts have speculated on GM's plans for its growing pile of cash as the company's liquidity has reached $36.5 billion. It earned $3.2 billion in the first quarter after posting net income of $4.7 billion for all of last year, its first full-year profit since 2004.

Four thousand jobs ? I bet that'll increase sales.

Not so sure of your point Term but it is in actuality an increase in sales that prompts the move.

With the tragedy in Japan, Toyota has suffered greatly and the reaction to the GM products in the recent past has been favorable.

More jobs for workers, more investment in the corporation, not bad for a company on the brink just a short time ago.

There are 300 million people here, about a third of them unemployed. It's a PR move. So Japan is FUBAR right now. There's always Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, how many more should I list ?

They are going to scream on TV " FOUR THOUSAND NEW JOBS ! " and the sheeple will be proud to buy a GM product and they'll get those flags to put on their new cars.

And 202,000 is alot more than 77,000. So it'll be 81,000 now. But since they stopped teaching math, it will look so good.

Will create OR preserve 4000 jobs.    Term,  your outlook is wildly optimistic.    ;-)

popeye1250 -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 10:03:06 AM)

Let's see, we've lost how many MILLIONS of jobs since "NAFTA"?
Oh yeah, "preserving" 4,000 jobs will get this economy roaring right back to life!

Lucylastic -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 10:43:00 AM)

now why dont you find some actual figures of what nafta has caused jobs wise
NAFTA not any other FTA just nafta,
how about all the oil you have gotton from the two countries in NAfta apart from yourself? You wanna buy up all the companies, then just dump them
nah.......FTA dont work like that and you cannot get out of NAFTA and wont
How many actual jobs  went to mexico, even more, how many went to Canada?
try finding some actual cites for your blatherings?

Musicmystery -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 11:57:57 AM)

Canada and Mexico are our top trading partners, larger than China or Japan.

Mexico, especially, is dependent on our goods. Two huge markets.

The only real downside to NAFTA is it also opened up drug trade. But as long as the U.S. appetite for narcotics is so strong, that was going to happen anyway.

Thankyou Music

Its not a simple solution and I dont see anyone getting out of it, no matter who promises to.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves

In actuality about 800,000 productions jobs went to Mexico....no one is exactly sure how many of those jobs were later moved to China (Mexican officials aren't exactly forthcoming about such things) but NAFTA provided our agricultural markets to become a great deal larger. Our ag dollars continually mount as a lot of the jobs that were lost in manufacturing are now sourced to China.
Posted a good link to info. on both sides of the NAFTA argument in another thread concerning 3rd parties if you really want some information.

pahunkboy -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 12:42:21 PM)

In simple terms-  pay a guy a dollar here an hour.

or pay someone off shore 10 cents an hour-   translates into 10x the work force elsewhere.

Brain -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 6:42:14 PM)

You're right it's not enough but you're obviously ignoring the fact if it were up to Republicans this company and many others would not exist anymore.

I suppose it's not going to make any difference anyway when you Tea Party guys don't increase the debt ceiling and destroy the world economy it will make the Great Depression look like happy days are here again.

Brain -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 6:48:41 PM)

And it's not we lost its Republicans and conservatives lost millions of jobs because it was Ronald Reagan and Brian Mulroney that created NAFTA.

Not gonna happen. It's just a game of chicken, Washington style.

They're doing okay in China saleswise.

"but you're obviously ignoring the fact if it were up to Republicans this company and many others would not exist anymore. "

Huh ? Quit confusing democrats and republicans with motherfuckers. That offends the motherfuckers.

And with 202,000 jobs overseas and a whopping 77,000 here, they should've been liquidated along with all those asshole banks that now stand to gain immensely due to the support of motherfuckers, the ones YOU call republicans.

And capitalising the word republican is not correct. It would be more appropriate to capitalise the word motherfuckers.

SilverMark -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 6:52:30 PM)

Actually NAFTA was signed but not ratified by congress under George the First

Brain -> RE: GM to invest $2 billion in 17 U.S. plants (5/11/2011 6:59:50 PM)

I didn't think you were that pissed about all this but I'll capitalise Motherfuckers. If it makes you feel better that's the least I can do.
