Ebay disputes/resolutions?

Ebay disputes/resolutions? - 5/13/2011 11:21:22 AM

Anybody here ever received inferior merchandise from a seller and enlisted Ebay's help for resolution? If so, how did that turn out? Does Ebay really stand behind the buyer? Was your dispute resolved, refund or replacement received?

Any advice or info is appreciated!

Yes.  I have been on both ends of a dispute.

IMO= Paypal is the way to go.   Complain via there.    As a buyer-  paypal ruled in my favor every time...  maybe not 100% but close to it.    As a seller paypal ruled in my favor  75% -ish. 

When complaining be as detailed as you possibly can be.

..paypal freezes the funds- until a decision is made.   Where as ebay dings the account- and the seller can just come back under a different name.

Changed a lot, quite a few countries now require that you identify yourself, so you have to go to the post office with ID (passport, etc.) and they confirm, then you can be a seller. I guess it is because so many people gave fake addresses and all that...

Just an update, in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation and can benefit from the info....

Hunkie was right Long story short, after I followed their instructions for disputing the transaction with the seller, Paypal has indeed withdrawn and frozen the funds from my scammer seller's account. As soon as they receive delivery confirmation for the return of the piece of crap, they will transfer the funds into my account.

For the record, what I was dealing with? Expensive piece of electronic gaming equipment, wrapped and shipped virtually unprotected in a plastic bag, not a box. Seriously. But it was the USPS's fault, not the sellers, according to the seller.

Well in that case, good luck to him getting it back from the UPS... Though sometimes you do pack things carefully and they still break it but some sellers just don't package well. I recall having bought really really expensive shoes and the seller forced them into a box that was too small and snapped the heel off - I mean ffs, what good does a shoe do when the heel is broken? He also tried to blame it on the postal system, yeah right, I mean the box was undamaged, but simply to small and to fit in he had to snap the heel - what a brainiac...

This was not the first poorly-wrapped item I had bought, either. The other was a soft-cover textbook that I had bought for my son, wrapped in newspaper and then a paper grocery bag that had torn open during shipping. The book did survive, but I mentioned the wrapping condition in my review, which really pissed the seller off, lol.

And I got the same response from both sellers: "It's not my fault what the USPS does to it during shipping!" What I wrote back to both of them was "You as the seller have a responsibility to pack the item safely for shipping, not wrap it in paper or plastic and then blame the postal service for damage." With the shipping services like the UPS Store and Kinko's/FedEx, as well as all the sturdy mailing boxes and bubble wrap available at the post office for a minimal charge, there is just no excuse for shoddy pack & wrap jobs.

yep, and claim that the postage must have gone off the parcel, so of course its not their fault that you now end up paying 8 pound for postage AGAIN plus the lack of postage fee on top of it...end then are surprised when you mark them with negative feedback (I had contacted her before doing so where her attitude showed that she just did it that way to earn more on it, as I should be soooooooo glad to have received that item sooooo cheap...after all, you can leave (at some post offices) a parcel even without postage...even when she claimed that would not be possible, am not born yesterday )

Overall I do enjoy ebay but some folks are a pain on there and I recently stopped being as easily as generous with my feedback as I used to be

Not at the post office here, I got something I never ordered and didn't want to pay the return costs (as it wasn't the wrong item but something I seriously did not order nor did I know the company or had any use for the stuff but they had a bill in it) and they refused to take it at the post office without paid postage. I was not too happy about that.Found out on the net that this seems to be the latest scam, if you don't send it back registered they will send you payment reminders with fees and try to collect. I might just send them lots of letters I can throw into a mail box and not put postage on those...

Well at one in Sutton/Surrey you could, if you would want to...I always used their self servicing machines (or at least when they were working ) and then placed the lot of my stuff into their pick up area (except the ones which fitted their mail box), so if I would have wanted to, I would have been able to sneak a parcel underneath it with no postage...so therefore trying to tell me that the postage would have gone off is just not something I am buying...

Right now I am waiting for a refund as one buyer posted me the wrong book and of course another person as well...will wait with giving her feedback until she actually did the refund and not just claimed she would refund it... as quite frankly it isn't up to me to pay her postage just because she sends the stuff to the wrong folks...

I avoid any item on eBay that looks like it is being sold by an average Joe because the average Joe doesn't know Jack about proper packing. I have received electronics items that were poorly packed and only arrived intact through the grace of God. I once refused an eBay shipment simply because it was packed so poorly without even opening it to see if the contents were okay. These days I limit my purchases to power sellers or others who clearly have appear to have their shipping act together.

+1 on Paypal. It rocks.

Okay.... anytime someone says "for the racord" after not mentioning what the mail order product is. IT'S NEVER 'electronic gaming equipment' ... Fess up girl!
I think the transaction didn't turn out because maybe you got a leaky....

I always use papal with eBay. I had a ps3 that the seller never sent. EBay had me try to work it out with the seller. And I had to wait a certain number of days. But after that eBay tried to contact the seller. Couldnt. And they refunded my money.

Unless you are buying something small or cheap, only deal with people with a long positive feedback history. Read them and get a feel for how the seller handles things.

This week- a coin I ordered had the wrong address (house number) on it.    The post office caught it- and it got here safely.

I have no complaints about the postal service.  

A few of the vendors I bought from over package the coins.  But- I dont complain. 

lately tho- people are more desperate.  I might have made a large purchase 2 years ago-  today my purchases are smaller.   Even if I prevail in a dispute-  it takes time and ties up funds...  so to cut that chance-  I keep the buys smaller.

I had that problem once or twice that the parcel was sent without sufficient postage and I got charged, told the seller and they said it must have come off, one even scanned her receipt in to show me she did post it, obviously sometimes they WILL come off, shit happens.

As for getting something by mistake, yes, happened too, contacted the seller and she apologized, I sent the item on to the person who bought it and told her not to worry (it was something ridiculous like £1.05 - not worth to make an issue about it), she was so happy that she rang me up to thank me, turned out she lives quite close, we met for a coffee and she's now a good friend, priceless...

I just gave a ton of quite expensive clothes to charity, because I simply can't be arsed with the typical idiotic eBay buyer, you put something on, they buy it then realize that they are too fat for it and argue that it's not a regular UK 8 (even though it's labelled as one and the measurements are given, so please read) or it doesn't suit them (err, that's why there's a picture or several of the item there...), complain if the RM takes 2 to 3 days to deliver it (I can't freaking BEAM it to you) and if you only send registered as far too many people claim that they haven't got it despite the fact that you can show proof of sending... Seriously, not worth it, rather goes to a nice pet charity than getting a few pence and having all the hassle.

Well, this seller had almost 800 sales transactions and a 99.9% good rating, as well as all 5 star ratings. All her comments were positive. Trouble with that is, what's to stop them from making fake profiles and rating themselves, having their friends send in good reviews?

I did buy through Paypal, and I am very pleased with how well they stand behind the buyers. They have already deducted my refund out of her account, and will deposit it in mine as soon as the item is delivered back to her.

I do agree with you that it can come off but in that particular instance her attitude did show that it didn't come off coincidentially...
