I was actually thinking of starting one called, "Of puppies, and guppies, and fruit flies, oh My", but I'm thinking that would cause some really ruffled feathers out of some people.

^ That would get a rise outta' some people for sure.  Toss in some sharks, lions and gazelles just to make sure you ruffle all the feathers.

I'm just not a volatile kind of person, and I come here mostly for entertainment value, so yeah, I avoid the volatile, train wreck kind of threads.  I don't go to P&R because I don't have an interest in those discussions.  I'm not interested in the Gorean forums so I don't go there.

I don't like posting volatile types of posts.  When I do, I regret it later - not because I may have offended somebody, but because it just doesn't feel good to me.  I do hit "cancel" on a lot of posts I write, because I realize I either don't care all that much or it's just not a place I want to go.

I rarely start my own threads.  I let others start them and entertain me. [8D]

You have to admit, it would be funny as hell.  Even more so because some folks wouldn't have a clue in the world.  [8D]

As a side note, you're either up way too late or way too early.

My best to Everhope.

Thank you for your wishes.  I had long nap so I'm up late, everhope is sleeping soundly.

One of the best threads I ever did was an interview thread on a software forum.  I was the interviewer (a mod) and the thread itself was locked.  The replies were just one question, followed by one answer (interview target was also mod). It was a really good read without the usual bullshit, flames and superficial derailments.  I had a parallel Question thread where members posted questions they wanted answered.  I selected the best questions, and updated the interview thread accordingly.

I would love to take one of those volatile topics and start an interview or discussion thread where you, another person and I all post from our perspectives.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: -=Do you avoid posting volatile topics or replies?=- (5/18/2011 5:24:33 AM)

one person's harmless thread could be volatile to someone else. if you're really interested in something, you can't be TOO worried about what other people are going to flip out about. sometimes the flipping out shows more about the person doing it, than what was said or responded to.

that said, since sometimes this place DOES seem like walking into a bar fight, i have avoided posting a few things. there are other things i haven't avoided posting, though. it kinda depends on the day, the topic, how i feel and how much i'm interested in the investment. =p

I have a handful of things I wrote and then upon proof reading, decided that it wasn’t worth the trouble posting.  I just didn't have time to attend the thread properly and put out all the flames and derailment.  Has this happened to you?

No way! I pretty much say whatever comes to my mind at any given time! As for people's reactions...."rock and roll, deal with it" is my motto, more or less. Life is too short to worry about the dull din of the doomed damned masses!

As a result of the "Gor/feminism" and "Jane Fonda likes alpha men" threads, I've been composing a post regarding feminism to put in P&R but have held back because the waters are quite rough there.

i would actually be very interested in reading what you wrote, but i can understand the hesitation to post them.

No, I'd imagine because I'm not remotely interested in 'flames' etc.

I post when I see a post that I find interesting, with the aim being to get a conversation going. What is going on elsewhere in the thread simply passes me by.

IrishMist -> RE: -=Do you avoid posting volatile topics or replies?=- (5/18/2011 3:33:47 PM)

I don't create a lot of threads, so that one really would not apply to me. As to the other though...If I think someone is an idiot, I am not above stating that they are well...an idiot.

You can always post it in the off topic section and wait to see if it gets moved.

Alliteration... excellent!

I remember that "interview" thread.  It was just after Everhope came to FL with all kinds of questions about the cage, the arrangements, and such.  It was a very good read.

I'd be happy to contribute to a future endeavor.  We could probably have some fun doing it, too. Consider Me signed up and we'll make it a project.
