He may have been hoping she wouldn't pull through so he could avoid all of the nastiness.

Of course, should the choice come down to an asshole vs. an incompetent...

We aren't required to choose.  In Newt, we can have both.

Good one!

He's an asshole. Isn't that enough?

Not only is Gingrich nothing more than the Paris Hilton of politics...famous only because he is famous, he regularly revises history about the country and particularly about our founding fathers...to try to make an argument for changes today. He is the perfect republican elitist, arrogant hypocrite who wants us all to forget his past and elect him again. He really is dreaming.

He will do what all of the repubs candidates will do...hire some temps, go through the motions, lose big and go home.

lol.. you are how old?

Old enough to know that Newt Gingrich will save America from the downfall that it is currently in. He is not just another political opportunist like all the others. His principled stances, extreme charisma, and his ability to speak to the common man will ensure that he rides into office with a wave of historic voter approval.

I know that you have a secret admiration for Newt Gingrich, just admit it!

I wouldn't vote for him for the responsibilities of dog catcher.

He is nothing at all of the above. He is an opportunist with a very large bag of lies. He is a very good propagandist and has fooled you completely. You were how old when he committed adultery (while trying to impeach Clinton for lying about his oval office blow job) divorced one wife (took papers to the hospital where she was dying of cancer) and has lived the life almost exactly the same as that of the people he denigrates.

Uhhh, I dont think you understand "individual mandate".

Once again, we are not going get any of that 'understanding' from you...are we ?

I dont know if he's on any drugs or drinking heavily, but I will say this: If I cant trust you to conduct your marriage in a decent and honorable manner, I sure as HELL cant trust you to run my country.

I am no fan of Newt but I wonder if the correlation is valid. We have had no shortage of Presidents who were dishonorable in their marriages. There is the well documented, I think, stroy that FDR had a honey on the side while his wife Eleanor also had a honey on the side. Eisenhouer, Kennedy, Clinton, and Johnson of the modern presidents also come to mind as men who dabbled or had other relationships. And Pat Nixon, for whatever reason, was certainly not a happy woman.

So, I wonder.

But you can't have it both ways now because of the above were accounted for, there would have been no Clinton civil trial no less and a ridiculous attempt to remove him from office.

Fact is now we have no shortage of republican hypocrisy and almost all of the matters that didn't raise our ire in the past.

The issue was the immorality of the candidate and his fitness for office. My opinion that it is a bogus issue is supported by History of the office.

Hypocracy is another issue isnt it? Seems to me if we clean the nation of hypocritical Pols we will have very few available for elected office. The family values platform of the GOP just makes their hypocracy a little more egregious. Bottom line is they are all seeking status and power by way of money and votes in return for promises that don't often materialize.

So, are immorality and hypocracy the most important predictors of a candidate's failure of efficacy when in office or are they only the emotional responses of potential voters?

I do not respect a person that is secretly doing one thing while they condemn others for it. In this case, he did not only condemn others for the very things he was guilty of, he led the charge to eject that person from public office. Now, perhaps you could find such a leader "effective". I think commanding respect is an important attribute in a president..... it is something that the Right blather endlessly about, yet they consistently put forward candidates that do not command it.

~FR~

I don't like Newt, especially as a Presidential candidate. I do find it odd that the standards to judge various candidates or current presidents are not applied equally. Hypocricy is a trait of almost every politician. How they conduct themselves in their personal affairs, and who they associate with is a good measure of who they are. Yet these factors are dismissed when applied to a politician that someone likes, but used against one that they do not. I see this as a reflection of some of the things wrong with the country, and until we hold ourselves, and then our leaders to the same standards, we will continue to just have party line bickering. Party bickering is some of the biggest distractions to the larger problems of the political elite.

tazzygirl -> RE: Is Newt Gingrich an out of control alcoholic or oxycontin abuser? (5/16/2011 7:41:06 PM)

I wouldn't have a problem with Newt and his interactions with his wives if he had kept his sanctimonious nose out of Clinton's marriage. Newt set the "bar" for standards, then failed his own standards.

Brain -> RE: Is Newt Gingrich an out of control alcoholic or oxycontin abuser? (5/16/2011 7:46:32 PM)

No, he is not. I dislike him for other reasons like his racial attacks against Obama - the birther garbage and references to gay fascism, whatever the fuck that is. Any way, if it's possible to take away the bullshit he might be mildly acceptable. Of course as Palin would say, it's still a pig with lipstick.

EDITORIAL: The GOP idea man
Newt’s presidential campaign raises the bar

Now that Newt Gingrich has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the Republican presidential nomination, the knives are out. Many on the right are complaining that the former House speaker spends too much time off the reservation to be seriously considered for the job. They need a history lesson.

From the article:

"my hope is that a majority of Americans will decide that I can help this country get back on track in a way that no one else can," Gingrich said. "And if they decide that that's true, then I think we will have a very successful campaign."

Duh, Newt. Yeah, the support of a majority is the way this works.

And if not, well, he'll make a lot of money from people stupid enough to donate to him...
