Wedges, and platforms and larger heels (not stilletos) are stronger and sturdier and won't bend as much when worn. They are a little easier to walk comfortably in and get used to. The suggestion to work up to higher heels is also good because it's not simply about strength, it's about balancing and walking differently. That can only be learned from practice and getting the feel for it. When my daughter was younger, and put on her first pair of heels, I told her to straighten up, tuck in her pelvis a little, and sort of lean back a little until she kind of felt her whole body slide right into the heels. Oh I just found a link to some tips. http://www.ehow.com/tips_16007.html Try some cross dressing sites too. I was reading through the tips at the above site and one mentioned practicing walking on tip toes. Rising up and down from flat feet to tip toes might be a good way to practice balance and strengthen ankle, leg and foot muscles. An exerciese we do in bellydance for this is to stand with legs about shoulder width apart, then bend knees deeply, keeping back straight (hands on thighs for balance), then rise up on tip toes. Then straighten the knees, or stand while still on toes, and then slowly lower. This can also be done in reverse. Tip toes while standing, then bend knees, then lower heels. Have Fun!
