Mine get used for the cats as well as the small trash baskets in the bathroom.  I have to admit that I haven't gotten on the cloth shopping bandwagon yet.  I have one of those from the market that was around the corner from the last house that I'd never remember to bring with Me.

For those active in the Needles and Hooks thread, you can use those plastic bags for knitting and crochet [:D]

Reuse em for trash mostly but also:
* Poop cleanup from animals (though I suppose that could count as trash too)
* In trash baskets/bins (again trash)
* Towels when we go swimming at the pool or the lake
* Overnight/change of clothes bag when visiting relatives as a duffel bag is usually overkill and invites useless over-packing.

Yes I reuse.

Maui and Kaua`i counties have banned them.

I know but my hands (and brain) can't understand WTF is going on.

I am going to use tulle for my dishcloths, making them instant scrubbers.

I use mostly cloth and plastic re-usable bags that I've bought.  I've got enough for about 4 or 5 households.  I try to keep some in my car for grocery shopping.  Then I forget when those run out and in Ontario at least, you have to pay .05 for plastic bags.  But I buy them every once in awhile as I use them for smaller garbage cans, recycling cans before they go into the large recycling bag, and for garbage in my car.  Also used on a door handle for regular garbage until I can fill a large garbage bag for pick up.

And we have re-cycling here, cans, plastic bottles and such, tins go into one recycling bag.  Cardboard goes into another.  If they're in re-cycling bags they have to be clear plastic or the recycling trucks won't pick them up.  Mix up the wrong thing in them and they'll leave them with a note to separate.

Yup. We use them for garbage bags, and they make perfect garbage bags for containing messy or greasy or rotten stuff with in a bag.

soul2share -> RE: Do you re-use plastic store bags? For garbage or any other use. This poll- comes up- over the que (5/22/2011 1:59:27 PM)

Well, I usually keep them on hand for things around the house, mostly the stuff already listed.  I have the cloth bags too, but just can't seem to remember to take them from the car to the store.  However, I don't have the clerks bag the larger items, bags of dry cat food, 2 liter bottles of soda, things like that that I can carry anyway.  The soda doesn't usually go any further than my car anyway because the bigger bottles are waaaay cheaper that the machines.

For the next Lord knows how long, I'll be recycling them in the shower, as I ripped the toenail completely off my left big toe, and I'm not looking forward to sticking it in water.  It needs to heal a bit before I try that!

i started reusing them and making plarn tote bags; it's a great way to get crochet time without shelling out additional money for yarn. =)

Yeah it is 5cents a bag now. I use them for recycling, it all goes in the recycle bin and they will take any colored bag I use. I use cloth bags and wrap wet/cold things in those clear bags you get in the produce area to make sure my groceries dont leak, or contaminate. Wow just started hailing like CRAZY here!

The problem with using re-usable bags for groceries is that they need to be washed every time. If you have a package of chicken, the blood will get into the bag and then the following week, you'll have e coli contamination of the new food. I double bag chicken in plastic because it always drips. Beef and pork aren't nearly as likely to.

I use them for wastepaper baskets. I use them instead of bubble wrap for shipping things. I keep a couple in the car so if I'm waiting I can collect all the garbage that accumulates.

Hi Celeste!

I'm like Greedy, I use the bags for litter box cleaning and like Celeste will line the wastebaskets with them.
As for the one's that suffered leakage, I'll toss those.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Do you re-use plastic store bags? For garbage or any other use. This poll- comes up- over the que (5/24/2011 7:12:49 AM)

I have cloth or plastic tote bags I use for all my shopping. On the rare occasions I don't have them with me, I use the plastic ones and pop them into the recycling bin.

I wash my bags once or twice a month, and if I know I have drippy meat, I will put it into a plastic bag first before putting it into my tote.

My local health food store is just now getting around to charginge 5 cents for the smaller plastic bags I use to buy spices and staples like brown rice of flour. Not sure how I am going to deal with that. As has been pointed out, reusing bags is not very sanitary, but I hate wasting all the plastic trees.

Any suggestions?
