My biggest beef right now is with my car and health insurance companies. They're always polite, just extremely inept. It's way too long of a story to tell here, but I'll suffice it to say that they were charging us way too much. After over five months of idiocy, amounting to nearly three straight weeks of daily phone conversations with them (four hours a day), I finally was able to get a hold of someone who knew what they were doing at the health insurance company (Sagamore Health Network/ Medical Mutual) to actually pay the bills they owed, and refund us what we'd overpayed. I had to handle the car insurance (Indiana Farm Bureau) myself. Thank the powers that be that I save every damn receipt that crosses my path. I managed to prove to them that they owed me several hundred dollars. If I hadn't nearly stalked them, I'd have never gotten my money back. Usually I get great customer service wherever I go. If not, I rectify the situation to the best of my abilities. It's something I just won't tolerate, unless there are extraneous circumstances. Oh, and I just remembered a funny Kroger (Payless to those of you in Indiana) story. On Valentine's day I special ordered my husband this really cute cupcake. I pick it up and go to pay. I tell the sixteen-year old kid at the checkout to be careful with it, or it would be ruined. What does he do? He picks the damn thing up, flings it across the scanner, and throws it down to the bagger. It was destroyed. I demanded he go get me a new one made from the bakery lady. He looked at me like I'd grown a third head and said in a rude tone of voice, "I'm not going over there. She'll get pissed." I looked at him and said, "Oh, trust me, you most certainly will. And I'm waiting right here until you get it." After a bit of argument, the kid gave me a shitty look and charged off to get me a new one. The bagger boy apologized profusely. I admit that after I payed I tattled to the manager. This kid was unbelievably rude. It doesn't end there, though. About a week ago I went to the same store (it's really close to my house) and bought several things, including a few cases of pop. While I was paying, the bagger in the next lane stole my empty cart (which was still right in front of me, in my lane, and I needed it to put the pop in). The bagger was the same kid who threw my cupcake! Grrrr. I looked at him and said, "That's my cart. I need it." He said, "Too bad. I'm using it now." The lady, a nice woman in her mid-forties, who was bagging my groceries, gave me a weak look and said, "Oh, did you need that?" Well, let's see. I'm seven months pregnant and I have three cases of pop to get out to the car. Yes, I fucking needed it. Ok. I just thought that part. What I said was, "Yes, I did." And no one did a damn thing about it. I had to go get my own damn cart. I just don't understand people like that, I guess.
