Fortunately, all my partners have fed into that lust, even the ones with anililagniac tendencies.

I had the tests done through my doctor and I do indeed have a mild case of dyspraxia. Has bugger all effect on my everyday life except for being seriously clumsy and uncoordinated.

I would venture that less people self-diagnose now, at least in developed countries, than they did a hundred or a hundred and fifty years ago.

Have I? Of course. Colds and stomach bugs. Twice a broken foot. A miscarriage. Strep throat.

I think that it is important to have enough body knowledge to know when it is important to head for the doctor's office or the E.R., or that this too shall pass in about a week to ten days.

Just like if you have pets or children you need to watch out for them and make the decision.

Although I will agree that an awful lot of females seem to have mental issues that the BRAG about. Way more than I recall as a child. It is as though you cannot be one of the 'cool kids' without a script from your shrink.

I dunno, maybe it is more accepted now and carries less of a stigma? For our parents and grandparents depression was something that honest hard work cured... I agree it's much more en vogue now to have something odd, though I had to laugh when I told somebody I can't have hazelnuts, they asked me if I am sure and I am not imagining it - a bit hard to imagine that your throat swells up so much that you actually can't breathe anymore... I mean the last time I imagined it, I woke up with a tube down my neck - wish I could forget that bit of my imagination...

Maybe I'm a bit of a cynic, but a close friend of mine is suffering from serious PTSD, yet won't admit it as it's not something "a man" has, I rather have a bunch of bimbos bragging about their mental problems if that means some people who actually need help are getting it...

Yep, I said the same, when I mentioned it recently to mum....when I was a kid (20-30 years ago) it simply wasn't as known as it is these days...however, on the other side I am fine that I didn't get filled up with meds and managed all without...but I did experience during uni how hard it truly can be to focus and to stay on it...

so maybe, if I would ever have kids, I might then get the answer at last...

Status: offline 		Sure, I've self-diagnosed. I went to the ER last year with horrible food poisoning. The doc wanted to do an x-ray to make sure nothing was "blocked" in my intestines. I refused. "Look man. It's food poisoning. This ain't my first rodeo."

I have self diagnosed many times. I almost always know what I have before I walk into a doc's office. I know the treatment too. Comes from workining hospitals for many years.

Psychologically? It was my job for years to diagnose other people. I'm pretty healthy these days. In the past I've had PTSD, but I've worked hard to have that healed. It doesn't affect me anymore for the most part (except if people are having a serious argument near me - that kind of freaks me out). The funny thing is that if *I'm* involved in the argument it doesn't affect me in that way.

I think that too many people don't recognize that part of a psych diagnosis includes more than just symptoms. Symptoms are just quirks. It is what happens with the symptoms that creates the need for diagnosis in order to properly treat.

Status: offline 		I've diagnosed myself a number of times, and my son a few times, and been right each and every time.  I'm very self-aware, phsically and mentally, so I usually figure out what's going on first, even before a doctor can.

Kind of a silly reason to diagnose yourself with something, imo, but whatever floats your boat, i suppose.

And as to your question... have i ever self-diagnosed? Yep. Minor colds, strep throat... to women problems, to my ADD/depression (well, that doesn't really count, as i had help with those last two, lol).

And i'll second what MaxsBoy said about being self-aware.

Status: offline 		My first year psych class left me daily thinking "oh gawd i have that!" lol ... okay maybe not that bad but there were a few.

Medically i have diagnosed pneumonia, migraines, kidney infections ... this is after they had already been diagnosed once in my life by a doctor though

Status: offline 		Yup. Plugged in my ails on WebMD and decided I had gall stones. Got that confirmed, had my gall bladder removed and was right as rain thereafter.

Status: offline 		I know my body and my mental health.  I'm on close terms with both.  I know that if i get a cold, within 3 days it'll be bronchitis and then I can head to the doctor's for antibiotics.  I wait or they don't believe me until I show back up a few days later.  I did the same with naproxen, found out the hard way when I took one and my throat closed, I couldn't breathe and I was covered in a rash.  Had to call an ambulance for that one.  I can tell when a migraine's coming on and I know the difference between that and sinus infections.

I know when I'm going into a dark hole,  when I'm going to have an anxiety attack, when I'm too stressed.  I know I'll be medicated for the rest of my life, my brain's wired differently and doesn't fire on all cylinders if you will.  Might explain that I'm halfway around the bend but haven't gone the full way.  I'm also that most special of nuts, the honey-roasted pecan.

What makes you think some of us don't already have that? Hmmm?
