So far, I've never blocked anyone.

I'm curious about others --- do you employ the block button, and if so, how many folks have you tossed into the abyss by using it?

Also, I'll presume if you answer this that you haven't blocked me.....yet.

Remember, I'm always working to change that.

Nah....I have a finely developed ability to tune out and move on

*edited to add......except once in awhile when I've had a bad day or pms-ing and I decide to go into a tirade like a poodle with a clothespin on its ass.  But I'm always disappointed with myself afterward.  Must transcend.

I've never blocked anyone.  I don't really see that function working for me.  If someone intends to say something bad about me, I might as well be able to read it.  I'm too nosey not to.

Within the forums I have not used the block button, though I have been tempted a time or two with a certain poster.

However, I have learned that using  tact in my responses irritates her more than simply blocking her.

why block anyone, when ignoring them is such a fine feature?

I have, I think I have reached my limit on how many people you can block, so I use the 'hide' function instead. That way I don't have to EVER see that profile. I block people from IM a decent amount of time, people who get too pushy [you know who you are], contact me without asking or people who are general pains in the ass.

Flip side, I have had people email me then block me so I could NOT respond to them, thats what cowards and trolls do.

I tell most people I block, " I am banashing you to the dark side.' A few people  have come back, not many, but a few have. A few people have changed, thats when they come back. :o)

I've blocked 2 people in all the time I've been here, I suspect by the time you've been here that long, you too will, lol.
Make that three as of today.  On the email side I have a boatload of blocked folks...  Anyone who has been deemed a playah(by emailing the same BS every few months without intention of ever moving beyond the computer) or an asshole (anyone who emails with nastymails without my having done something to desrve it), gets blocked forever.  M

slaverosebeauty? Just out of curiousity... how do they ask permission to contact you without contacting you to do so?

And to the question asked... I've only used the block button for those "spam" type posts that are a mile long. I really don't see the point in blocking someone on the message boards, there's too good a chance that someone is going to copy and quote the person I have blocked so to me, it's a wasted effort.

I mean on IM. Its rude to IM someone if you don't know them, or you were not invited to do so. Its like showing up at someone's place and not knowing them, but you saw them on the street and thought you would barge in.

I get IMs that start off with 'are you owned?' or 'slave' or 'i make the rules' and other bs. I don't play with troills or with morons, so why would I want to talk to soemoen who has no manners and contacts me without being invited to chat? Makes no sence. I am on a few sites and their is always email to say 'hi.' I am more inclined to reply to an email and invite someone to chat who has had the manners to email me, if they dont' have a profile, I won't chat. NO profile = NO chat or intelligence. Its that simple.

I have four people blocked.  They know who they are. The only other one that irritates the crap out of Me is a certain woman with her misinterpretations and misrepresentations, making every Christian look like an ass.  I have not blocked her yet though.

Everyone else, though, even if I do not agree with them, turn out to be a good read because I can learn things and realize things that I might not have thought of on My own.

On the email side I  have far more than I want to count blocked.

*laughs*

However, as I see it emails are more private space where my standards rule. Where as in forums they are for discussion and typically that means debate on some level.

Though if I could not be tactful in my response to someone then I would definately use the block button in the forums.

Ok, thank you for clarifing that for me... I do understand that... I've had people add me, the little window pops up asking me to add them to my buddy list.. ok? Well, on a couple of occasions I did this and then messaged them asking how they know me? Wow... did they get shitty with me!! Then swore that they didn't send me the invite to begin with.... Yeah, on IM... I have a huge list of people that put in a list titled "people I no longer talk to".

I have never blocked anyone, and don't intend to start.  I like idiots, especially when they're the funny variety.  I get off on playing with them.  So why block anyone?

What I do find amusing though is the veiled insults.

Cuz you know, I blocked one person, once, for his opinions, which are completely wrong.  YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!  I WILL COME AFTER YOU, AND USE YOUR PUPPY TO BUFF MY CAR.

You know what?  Say it, or don't.  (okay, you can't say it, against TOS.)  But then just get over your petty schoolyard taunts and be mature.  Adult site here, people.  Act it, perhaps?

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!  lol

Sorry bout my rant, couldn't resist temptation.

Yours,

benji

I block a lot and for several reasons. I don't block someone because of avatars.. I have them all turned off so I've never seen LA's purple bunny.  Those long posts putting in the whole military website was a no brainer for me. Block! People who contribute little but sarcasm or hate also get blocked. I just don't want to waste time and it shortens the number of pages in certain threads considerably. I also block people who blatantly put out false information and for the same reason. Bigots and racists are auto-blocked the first time they spew their bile. I don't want to waste my time with them either. Anyone who comes in and their first few posts are whiny or disparaging also get blocked but not before I give at least one chance for them to change their tune. They can sing, but I don't have to listen.  I realize I might miss an occasional gem, but that's OK. I don't want to have to dig through a ton of shit searching for it. Once in a while I'll unblock someone just to see if they've learned some humility or gained some depth and I have yet to find anyone meeting that criteria so I reblock them.  Basically, anyone who is interfering with my fun and never makes me think gets the block button.  Brown-nosers and ass kissers may or may not get a block depending on my mood. Generally speaking, once blocked, they stay blocked.. at least so far. Generally, those I block probably don't know they're blocked because I rarely make the information public. I figure if I don't give a shit about them, I seriously doubt if they are going to care if they're blocked by me.

Then there are people who I adore in terms of writing, fun or because they think outside of the box.. I put them on my favorites so I can stalk them.

And, no, cloudboy.. you are not blocked.. yet.

Celeste
