I can't complain too much. He also got me hooked up with the tickets to see Giuliani speak here locally, last time around. Then we scored seats close enough to see his eyes as he spoke longer than I'd expected, on a wide range of topics and issues.

I would very much like to see Rudy get in this.

I was disappointed to see that Mitch Daniels decided not to run. He'd have been a positive influence on the debate. Given the sort of campaign the Democrats are going to be running, it's hard to fault the guy for not wanting to put his family through it.

On the upside, Hunstman is saying sensible things about Afghanistan.

Huntsman is the real deal and the dark horse candidate to win the repub nomination.

Unfortunately I think RG's time has passed. A Romney/Giuliani ticket would have won in 2008 the way the economy developed late in the year.

An odd article here: http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/05/28/martin.gop.contenders/index.html?hpt=C2

Roland Martin states that Ron Paul has not yet declared, which he did two weeks ago, and doesn't mention that Rick Perry has been hedging his refusals lately.  The rest of the article seems thoughtful, though.

When his claim to fame is locating the Crisis and Emergency center up in the world trade towers (no bunker mentality for rudy) and getting Fulton fish market burned down because of ineptitude in prosecuting the Mafia....

And the Obama DOJ in January this year doing the largest bust in history out there, you gotta ask yourself.

What would Rudy do?

Giuliani for all his posturing and the good PR job he has done, has a pretty high sleaze factor that the right of the Republican party didn't buy inot in'08, and still won't. As for a Romney/Giuliani ticket winning in '08, how is it they would have won if neither did that well in their own party primaries? A bit of revising of the facts Wil?

You do understand that hypotheticals do just that, don't you? Move the economic crisis up 6 months and I have no doubt Romney would have been the nominee and won. RG would have been his logical complement. Feel free to disagree.

Nearly everyone does disagree, (not hypothetically either), next!!!!

Quite the hypothetical....and Guliani would have just as high a sleaze factor after the whole Donna Hanover affair, and Romney would still be disagreeable to the far right of the Republican party. Just found it to be too big a stretch from an analytical point of view.
Who knows, you could be right, but we'll probably never know.

mnottertail -> RE: The GOP field narrows. (5/28/2011 10:55:06 AM)

Heres a hypothetical I think we can all agree is concievably true:

IF and only IF, Obama would have stuck himself in the tonsils with a fork and bled to death while eating mashed potatoes at any time during his campaign, he wouldn't have become president.

IF and only IF, hypothetical one were true, nobody republican would have been president.

Hypotheticals you can believe in.

That and the pictures of him in a dress would likely be too much of a hurdle.
