Owner59 -> Netanyahu:Israel ready for "painful compromises" for peace (5/24/2011 5:47:13 PM)

A little leadership goes a long way.

Would he be saying this if not for President Obama`s lead?

Bravo Bibi.

This is an escalation and unfortunately, it received a standing ovation," he said, noting that Netanyahu had rejected Palestinian demands on central issues such as borders, competing claims to Jerusalem and the fate of refugees.

In lieu of negotiations, Abbas is campaigning to obtain U.N. recognition of Palestinian statehood when the General Assembly meets in September. Both Israel and the U.S. oppose this strategy, calling instead for the negotiated solution that has been the cornerstone of two decades of peace efforts.

Israel is going to have to cave on the right of return, they are going to have to come up with some sort of compromise on Jerusalem, and they are going to have to get their ILLEGAL settlements out of the West Bank

Like I have said before, building settlements while supposedly negotiating peace is what we call "bad faith negotiations". It shows what Israel's true intent is. It shows that they say they want peace, but they are LYING. You do not put civilians in a settlement unless you want to stay there.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Netanyahu:Israel ready for "painful compromises" for peace (5/24/2011 6:09:08 PM)

And stay there they will...

"Israel is not what's wrong with the Middle East, Israel is what is RIGHT about the Middle East!"

And there is no right of return, those Arabs left of THEIR OWN ACCORD AND CHOICE, that they believed the rantings of other Arab nations that they would push the Zionists into the sea is just a classic case of Caveat Emptor.

Had the region's Arabs stayed, they would now be enjoying the highest standard of living and more freedoms and liberties than any other Arab population on planet,

"left of THEIR OWN ACCORD AND CHOICE"

Does this count for the war refugees?

I don`t think so.

If you do,let me know and I`ll come over to your house and kick your fat dom ass out at gun point.

Then I`ll claim you just happened to leave.

lol

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Netanyahu:Israel ready for "painful compromises" for peace (5/24/2011 6:33:07 PM)

The Nation of Israel did not force them to leave and the Arabs that stayed (about have the Arab population) have reaped the benefits of Israeli citizenship.

tweakabelle -> RE: Netanyahu:Israel ready for "painful compromises" for peace (5/25/2011 4:11:25 AM)

Netanyahu is also "ready" for a two-State solution ... just as long as it's not the Palestinians (or any Arabs) who get the other State.

I also hear he's ready for "painful compromises", just as long as those compromises aren't on any outstanding or unresolved issue. There are so many other issues to compromise on. Like will this years roses be red or yellow? Or pasta or rice for dinner tonight?

I'm so glad to hear this - it makes me feel he's ready for peace ..... a very big peace of the West Bank. And Mongolia can have the little bit left over. He doesn't care whether it's Inner Mongolia or Outer Mongolia ... such a big hearted man isn't he? How could any one not trust him? Some people are just toooooo cynical for their own good!

Hmm, I wonder, I wonder what you would do given a similar situation where you and your family have been living for generations and some foreign power now tells you your home is no longer your home, but you can stay if you like, but be aware foreigners will be coming to live alongside you, as it is their home really, not yours. As years pass by people move out or homes and businesses become vacant through natural process and the foreigners take up residence all around, perhaps closing or changing certain aspects of your community that you and your family had known for years. Now of those incomers, they may seem alright, but they may have a different culture, language and hell, maybe their skin is a different colour, what would you do in such a situation stay where you are, or move to where people of your own kind are ?

Well, for example, in many places in the UK where we have admitted hoardes of foreigners who failed to integrate, but grouped together, buying up and buying out everything in their locale and even changing the language to something unitellligible, shop signs and such.Western churches boarded up or turned into the foreigners house of worship, the pub closing through lack of clientele, many people who have lived in places all their lives as their ancestors have, have moved out to be amongst their own kind and familiarity, a new location far better than their home just to have familiarity again.

But in the Israel situation, there is no doubt Jews bear suspicion and dislike for Arabs, would you stay if you were made as welcome as a fart in a space suit?

Apart from Qatar, Dubai and the ruling classes in most of the rest of the UAE, of course.

In the USA we had a phenomena called "White Flight".... but it is not the same as this situation, because the White people had enough money to go and buy nicer homes in a better location...taking community investment money with them.

So in your mind Israel cannot exist, because that is what your "compromises" mean. Please, youve already admitted your ignorance on the subject, don't waste more of our time until you educate yourself.

Strawman combined with the excluded middle wrapped in a generous helping of vacuous emptyheadedness.

Here in America, we call it immigration and it HAS it's growing pains, we're going through a phase of it right now.
We'll grow out of it and go back to being a big community facing the next set of challenges. And maybe it's time for Israel and Palestine to do so too. In fact, I think the clock is ticking on this one, because come september, the UN will recognize Palestine and things will start to change regardless of who wants it. I woud think  sensible people would love to see the two interested parties finally work something out, even if it's just a start with a foundation (nationhood) that can't be easily reversed.
And wouldn't it be really odd if we saw progress this time?

Actualy, this had been Israel's official stance, through all of it's governments, since 1993.

The two main issues which are the most problematic, are east Jerusalem, which i believe Israel would eventually be forced to find some sort of compromise, although the matter is quite complicated, since recent polls have shown that the Arab residents of east Jerusalem, are not very thrilled to be citizens of a newly founded state of Palestinian - not out of some great love for Israel, but out of fear of losing the good quality of life, living as Israeli citizens.

The second issue, is the Palestinian "right of return", which the Palestinians would have to give up on, since taking in millions of Arabs into Israel, would be effectively the end of Israel and you can't very well expect a country to sign it's own death sentence. it kind of negates the point of signing a peace treaty. the most the Palestinians would get, is some sort of monetary compensation.

How long ago was the last settlement built? I'm curious about that.
