Brain -> Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape (5/24/2011 8:54:50 PM)

It's illegal to get abortion coverage for rape? I'm glad I live in Canada. He compared it to having a flat tire.

Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape

If you’re not white, Christian and rich, Republicans don’t have much use for you except every second year when they ask for your vote. The rest of the time, you’re nothing but a nuisance to be trampled upon at will.

In comparing a tragic and life-changing act of rape to the inconvenience of a flat tire, DeGraaf gives credence to the term ReTHUGlican. These people disgust me.

I think the title of this thread is a little disingenuous.... republicans do not want you to plan ahead for rape, they want you to buy rape abortion insurance. You could always make the decision to have the baby.

I never got this "abortion is more necessary for rape victims" thing. Either you want to have the baby or you don't, the reason a woman doesn't want one is between her and her doctor. In other words, rape victim or not, women should have access to all legally available services... especially services that could be beneficial for her overall health and welfare

Republican Asks Women To Plan Ahead For Rape

These people disgust me.

You forgot to quote another Republican thug...

During debate over a law passed by the state legislature which makes it illegal for abortion coverage to be offered in general health plans unless a woman’s life is in danger, Republican Barbara Bollier expressed concern over the measure, one which would force women to purchase abortion-only coverage separately. What happens in the case of rape, she asked.

Only assholes pull this kind of stereotyping shit.

Many women, from both sides of the isle in Congress, have stood as a front to some of the craziest laws passed against women and children as of late.

Brain... please take a few moments to understand what it is you are posting.

Honestly, Brain, I agree.

I'm far more Democrat than Republican (though not on some issues), but really, when you get up and see rain in the forecast, you post the link and blame Republicans. When you see sun, you warn of consequences and blame the Republicans. Even when you have a good point, you ruin it by exaggerating it to silly proportions.

Find some balance. You'll have a much broader audience for your views.

Brain,

I am really curious are you actively involved in Canadian politics?  Do you get involved with candidates, go to rallies, etc.

Or do you just sit and piss around in ours?

I'm just glad I don't live in Kansas Toto
Seriously, republicans in my state wouldn't dream of allowing a farcical debate like that into the public record.

Musicmystery -> RE: Shoe Department: Third Floor (5/25/2011 9:51:50 AM)

It's actually not even the Republicans, Stern. It's the right fringe who come in and have everyone shaking their heads. The NY-23 debacle featured a Glenn Beck quoting moron, not even from the district, completely unfamiliar with district issues, even in a debate that told the candidates in advance what would be discussed.

The Democrat won (and then kept the seat) because not because he was Democrat, but because he actually had a handle on what was going on and what needed to be done. It's how local politics SHOULD work. When the nationals sweep in, the rural folk (except the Beckies) don't appreciate it. Sending Palin helped not at all, and sending Newt (whom even the Republicans here hate) added nothing either.

At the end of the day, people just aren't that dumb.

I'm sorry, I'm a little confused here.

Are you seriously trying to argue that rape victims should make the choice to continue a pregnancy resulting from a rape?

What part of what I wrote gives you this impression? What I say about the pro-life republican position that I was bagging on below?

Or my actual feelings about abortion and women's access to that service

This is the part that confuses me.

Especially what I highlighted.

Not at all, is sounded to me like Julia said ALL abortion, decisions should be strictly between a woman and her physician.
I'm thinking the same and that by doing something to so limit the scope of WHEN a woman even HAS THE CHOICE is wrong. And I agree with that too.

Okay... do me a favor Muse and clear a few things up for me,,,,

1)is the following IN context from start to finish?:
DeGraaf: “We do need to plan ahead, don’t we, in life?” Bollier: “And so women need to plan ahead for issues that they have no control over with a pregnancy?” DeGraaf:“I have spare tire on my car. I also have life insurance. I have a lot of things that I plan ahead for.”

2) DeGraaf:- Is he a republican congressman holding office in the Kansas House?
3)Am I correct in reading this as it was a debate during a run for office and not on the House floor as it seems to be framed in sources around the web? I see a mix of legit and obviously biased sites reporting the same thing. But the fundamental answer I want for this question is did the debate occur on the house floor?

Maybe I am misunderstanding this whole conversation, but it sounds an awful lot to me like encouraging a woman who was raped to have her rapist's baby.

Seriously, RML, you've highlighted and underlined everything except the central definitive statement:

Either you want to have the baby or you don't, the reason a woman doesn't want one is between her and her doctor.

How can you get from there to "encouraging a woman who was raped to have her rapist's baby"?

K.
