I am neither a Sub or a Dom [that I know of] I am a writer and I am here tor peruse your site for info relating to a fiction book I am about to write. I promise to be respectful and hopefully people here will accept my presence.

Let me rephrase - better to read the forums, learn who won't tear your liver out for poking your nose in to their business without being in the lifestyle yourself - then ask them if you can ask them questions privately. Posting to an open forum, even if you were in the lifestyle, invites the lions to gnaw upon your bones and they are a hungry, vicious bunch that show no mercy even as your squeals of pain echo through their dungeon halls. It is usually recommended to write what you know. Writing about stuff you do not understand or relate to is a set-up for failure. And asking prurient questions is not recommended. We're not interested in providing wank fodder for you or your intended audience. Nobody likes feeling like an animal at the zoo, being gawked at by the tourists.

There are certain ideals that are absolutes - we even have words for them like... fundamental truths, archetypes, common emotions, etc. I don't think it's necessary to know 100% about your topic - no writer knows 100% about their topic. As a woman, I can't possibly know what it feels like to be a man, but I sure can observe them, read studies about how they interact, run my ideas by other men, etc. That is what research is. You show me a writer who does NO research, I'll show you someone who writes crap. best, sunshine
