Brain -> Before the Big Bang: looking back in time - Parallel Universes - BBC science (5/25/2011 1:13:47 AM)

This explains what happened before the singularity – before the big bang. Maybe God is there, no I don’t think so.

There was time before the big bang and infinite universes.

After years of work, M-Theory still remains incomplete and of dubious testability and predictive power. Odd you should have such faith in it as the "explanation" of anything. But I guess that's just the nature of faith, eh? And, of course, you want others to know the truth too. I understand perfectly. You're a good little missionary. When you die you'll go to the Big Brane in the sky.

Wow, "years of work" on the most complex problem in science and it isnt fully developed. Who'da thunk.

Brain seems to be preoccupied with the existence of God…he claims to be an atheists but I’ll bet he is a closet theist…he just can’t stop talking about God.

It does amaze me when people deny the possibility of a God yet feel perfectly comfortable ascribing all of creation to wildly speculative theories with absolutely no proof. This theory is no less fantastic and unbelievable then the existence of an advanced all powerful being.

Uhhhh, it is far less fantastic because if correct it reduces complexity. Any theory that includes a god increases complexity.

My guess is that we'll still be struggling with this theory centuries into the phase whence we've become capable of sub-light travel. And it will be ignored and never solved if space exploration is entirely privatized. They'll be much more interested in outsourcing laborious tasks to lower gravity off planet situations where corporations don't have to pay workers as much because things aren't as heavy

How so...it just opens up the possibility of more than one God in multiple universes...Rather than reduce complexity it increases it... Who is to say each of these theorized universes have the same or even close to the same properties?

A case in point being, what if these neighboring universes even follow as simple a set of principals such as basic electrical theory. In a model like that,  one brane or universe could carry a positive charge as it's primary electrical characteristic (with nuances of positive and negative encapsulated in each side).
For neo-cons that would be like the star trek episode where there is a good enterprise and a war-like enterprise. Except, you wouldn't necessarily have to switch kirks to demonstrate the theory.

Not that I believe in the bible, but Genesis is full of doublets, meaning two stories that tell the same story in different ways. In one doublet about creation god seems to be talking to someone (other gods?). Now I know Christians interpret this to be Jesus with god...

Like I said, I am not into the bible really, but that passage always made me scratch my head

mnottertail -> RE: Before the Big Bang: looking back in time - Parallel Universes - BBC science (5/25/2011 9:16:50 AM)

Psalms 82:1.
God standeth in the congregation of the mighty, he judgeth among the gods.
1 Corinthians 8:5.
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),

Not exactly. It means you exist as a red stuffed animal in the other universe

Or completely sane and rational in that one.

thats because there is a much deeper meaning.

My personal favorite is this one here:
(2:9) And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that, with it, thou mayest blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." (2:10) And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chunks of oatmeal and bananas and raisins and koalas and blueberries and grues. (2:10.5) Skip a little bit. (2:11) And all were greatly overwhelmed by this sight. (2:12) But one did come forth, like a son of the Fire, who cried out, "Let this man not deceive you, for he doth lie." (2:14) And so there was great confusion as to whom was the servant of the Lord. (2:15) So Saint Attila did raise his voice to the Lord, saying, "O Lord, tell me, thy servant, how to use this thy hand grenade that, with it, thou mayest blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." (2:16) And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. (2:17) "Then, shalt thou count to three; no more, no less. (2:18) "Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. (2:19) "Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. (2:20) "Five is right out. (2:22) "Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." (2:22) "So Saint Atilla did raise the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch at his foes, and he did begin to take out the Holy Pin and counted."

My favoritist is:

You were created from a mans rib that you might lay you beside him and blow him.

...yea man, he never tells you who and how god was created or why or how existence...exists. Dumbass. Who invites him anyway ?

Oh, and also, why before the big bang, there was time and just how would we know it ? Seems to me, if there was such an occurrence as something akin to a big bang that created the universe, then nothing existed and there was no [time]...before it.

Seems to create in our minds such a thing as even a single additional universe...is to create another god.
