A Republican led sub-committee, headed by David Dreier (R-CA) blocked a bill that would allow abortions to be covered by the health plan, when a servicewomen gets raped.

Well, it was either allow the abortions in cases like these, or stone her for it...

Moonhead -> RE: Republican Taliban continue trying to impose Republican Sharia Law on everyone else. (5/28/2011 1:05:51 PM)

How about castrating or tube tying all service persons when they join up? Then they can be raped twenty times a day without any pregnancy risks that might lead to an abortion.

Any form of birth control is a preemptive abortion... doncha know!

True that. I was forgetting.

Art the ever-so-Christian Catholic school I had the misfortune of attending, contraception was never called either 'birth control' or 'contraception'.

The term used was "abortificients" - literally things-that-cause-abortions. Sex, BTW wasn't sex either. It was called 'procreation'.

And to think they'd call me a pervert now![sm=rofl.gif]

There are several increasingly powerful Christian movements in the US that have as their explicitly stated goal the subversion of the Constitution of the United States and the creation of a Christian nation with Christ as its King. They have targeted the Republican Party, and have largely (but not yet completely) co-opted it. I realize that some people enjoy being partisan bigots and shitting on the other party at every opportunity. But what we really have here is a Christian Taliban. And in my opinion, the sooner we start calling a spade a spade the better.

They definitely have the Democrats in their pocket as well, but to be fair, it was Reagan who lubed up his arse and bent over to accommodate these people first, wasn't it? The partisan thing seems a bit more appropriate in this case than in some others.

Behold a practical demonstration of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

What was the unintended consequence? People certainly knew what was going to happen back in 1980 when Reagan hopped in bed with Falwell.

I don't believe "in" unintended consequences. They don't. You drop a hammer out a tenth story window and it hits someone you are going to jail, if they catch you. You get knocked in the head by a bear and drop a lit match starting a forest fire, you go to jail.

So much for unintended consequences.

Not sure I see evil "partisanship" at play here...as you state, and I happen to agree with, the religious right has to an extent co-opted the Republican Party....so how is,for an example,my objection to ,those planks of the Republican Party crafted and driven by the religious right "partisanship" ?
In my opinion it is a case of me exercising my franchise and choosing the party that more closely approximates my values....at this point in time that happens to be the Democratic Party....perhaps down the line,as it has in the past,it will be the Republican Party.....but in order for that to happen they would first need to reclaim their party from the extremists who have co-opted it.

Yes, I would like to illustrate this by showing where the Christian Taliban educate college aged adults, and their dress code... The following is from Bob Jones University...

Dress Code
BJU bases its dress codes for men and women on the application of the principles of modesty, gender distinction, appropriateness and distinction from the world.

For MenFor Women
Dress Code for Men
General Dress
Hair is to be neat and professional (not tangled or spiked); fauxhawks are not appropriate. It should be a natural color.
Sideburns should be no lower than the lower opening of the ear. Men are expected to remain clean-shaven.
Necklaces, earrings, bracelets and tattoos are not appropriate.
Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to biblical morality. Therefore, BJU asks its students not to patronize these stores, wear their clothing or display articles containing their names or logos.
Class & Non-Class on Campus
Collared shirt: dress shirt or polo shirt
Dress pants or Dockers-style pants
Walking shoes, loafers, boots and leather deck-type shoes
Formal/Sunday
Coat, tie & dress shirt
Dress shoes
Dress pants
Casual Off Campus
Collared shirts
Casual pants or jeans
Recreation & Work
Jeans
T-shirts

For women

Dress Code for Women
Classroom/general dress consists of a dress or top and skirt; however, pants may be worn off campus and for some recreational activities on campus.

Tops
Tops must be long enough to cover the midriff.
Sleeves are required.
Necklines may come no lower than four fingers below the collarbone.
Skirts
Hemlines and slits or other openings should not be higher than the bottom of the knee.
Denim skirts may be worn for casual dress (not to class or other professional-type events).
Pants
Loose-fitting pants may be worn between residence halls, for athletic events, and off campus (where appropriate).
Jeans may be worn in and between women’s residence halls and when participating in activities, such as skiing and ice-skating.
Shorts are appropriate inside the residence halls. Shorts that come to the bottom of the knee may be worn when participating in athletics on campus.
Ease
Clothing should be modest. Clothing that is revealing either because of fabric, cut or tightness is unacceptable.
Clothing should be loose enough to conceal undergarment lines and not to draw attention to the figure.
Other
Hose are to be worn whenever men students are required to wear a coat and tie (including Sunday morning worship services, recitals and productions after 6 p.m., Bible Conference and commencement activities). Dress shoes are to be worn when wearing hose.
Hairstyles should be neat and feminine, and hair color should appear natural.
Earrings may be worn in the lower lobe of the ear (no more than 2 matching pairs). Other types of body piercing are not appropriate. Tattoos are not appropriate. Excessive makeup is not appropriate.
Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to biblical morality. Therefore, BJU asks its students not to patronize these stores, wear their clothing or display articles containing their names or logos.

Only two things to say about this.  One it is a private school and can set any standards they want to, no one is required to go there.  Two I went to a state college where half of the girls showed up in class dressed  like hookers, this is less distracting.  Oh and don't bother with calling me all kinds of vile names I don't intend to return to this thread to read them.

I do not call people "vile names"....

But it is interesting that you would not return to read my answer.

I have attended many classes with young people. They do not seem so distracted that they can't do their work. I think you might be thinking of high school.

Secondly, no one says they cannot have their dress code, but it does show a bit of what the world would be like for the rest of us if they ruled it, and they WANT to rule it.

I thought it was interesting that he thought jeans, tshirts, and shorts above the knee were whorish, but hell, you know the American Taliban don't wanna see any flesh colored parts, and for them those fleshy colored parts are usually white.

hlen5 -> RE: Republican Taliban continue trying to impose Republican Sharia Law on everyone else. (5/29/2011 8:02:25 PM)

When I was in Germany with the service 1982-84, any abortion would be at the expense of the servicewoman and would NOT be performed in the Army hospital.

I had a friend that was given a list of 6 German doctors to pick from. He botched it (incomplete) and she was in the hospital for some time.
