Vasoline is a mineral-oil-based lubricant.  As such, it tends to rot condoms fast.  Sadly, most people only hear the "oil based" part and neglect an excellent vegetable-oil-based lube, Crisco.  It's big drawback is it is a good culture medium for bacteria and virii so it got a bad rep in fisting clubs during the peak of the AIDS epidemic.  It can be used as long is it's extracted with a clean glove or cup and once taken out not returned to the main supply.

Water based lubes work best in the vaginal area.  They have problems in the ass because because the anus is hydrophylic and tends to extract water, making them a bit sticky.  This can be corrected by having a hand sprayer and re-wetting them occasionally.

My favorite all around lubes are silicone based, but they can't be used with silicon toys because they will melt them.

BrutalAntipathy -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 5:46:53 AM)

Vaseline is petroleum based, and petroleum will destroy latex toys and condoms. I've heard good things about silicon based lubes, but I have never tried them. I pick up sterile water based lube at work.

Try Astroglide, you can buy it in the grocery or drug store. It is hypoallergenic, condom friendly and does not promote bacterial growth like Crisco. It stays slick for quite awhile and you do not need to use a great deal of it.

Here is a link, you can request a sample and read the product specs;

Mine is produced by Gulf South Medical Supply, brand name GS Select sterile lubricating jelly. Most pharmacies carry one or more brands of lubes, and not all medical centers use the same brand.

Yep, Astroglide... the Lube of Champions... now there is a ad I wouldn't be offended seeing at the side of my collarme screen!

redpetals -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 10:04:31 AM)

unless you will be  diligent to getting vasilene off your goody parts you shouldnt use it..it is the ultimate breeding ground for bacteria

servingwench80 -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 10:06:59 AM)

I don't know if it was the particular bottle that hadn't been stored well (are there storage requirements for these things?) but someone used Astroglide on me and it burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrned! I use something called Slippery Stuff. Not sure where it came from cuz it was given to me *L* My first lube to go with my first sex toys *le sigh*

perverseangelic -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 11:51:23 AM)

I really dislike Astroglide and highly recomend KY Silk-E. For some reason Astroglide irritates me, but KY Silk is wonderful. Originaly KY I dislike even more than Astroglide.

When I was still on birth controll, my Owner and myself used to use unscented, uncolored hand lotion with great success. I asked my OBGYN and she said as long as we werent' using condoms, that it wasn't going to hurt me.

snowhite -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 11:59:13 AM)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned good old fashioned K-Y

I am surprised to hear you say that about Crisco (shortening). Very interesting as I have always heard it was better and it was safe. Can you direct me to a link that you know of supporting this? Thanks[:)]

justatoy2 -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 6:40:13 PM)

there are a number of silicone based lubricants that are safe to use with condoms and do not get sticky like water based lubricants can. You can get these at any adult oriented store.

So I took a nap after reading some of these replies, and then I came up with a weird idea. If it sucks, blame the effects of sleep on the brain.
What happens to lube when it's frozen? Does it lose it's slipperyness when it thaws? What would happen if you... froze it into a lil ice cube.. and then inserted it?

slaverosebeauty -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 8:56:56 PM)

Euros is the best stuff. Only takes a few drops, thats about it. Vasaline has reactions to different things adn erodes condowms whcih is a bad thing if you have the habit of using them; I found the best stuff in an adult store, ask them for the best lube and it won't be astroglide [sorry guys]. This other stuff is a bit more expensive, but since it lasts a long time and you use so little of it, its worth it; you don't have to buy it as often. Their is a cheap version of it that does just as well, if I can find te bottle in my black bag, I will post that oen as well, but Eros is the best I have found.  If you put a drop of Eros on your finger tips andrub tem together, you have to literally wash it off [water alone won't really work, unless you apply a bit of pressure] to get it off, so its great for anal.

akisha -> RE: lubricant for anal insertion (5/14/2006 10:25:38 PM)

Playboy has a great line of lubs. silicone and water based. Ohmy is nice. It's hemp based and doesn't tase wierd.

Silk is one of the top rated I've heard.

John, just teasing you and I know this is not what you meant, but I could see someone putting the "used" Crisco back in the can to cook with later. Haha

What a warped imagination. I like that! I'm going to stick some in the freezer now and find out.  I'll get back with the results after it has frozen and thawed.
