I have no idea, but I will be here as long as it is free.

Personally I would rather pay than see pics of porn do me girls posing as local. It's difficult enough narrowing down subs and keeping them focused without having that temptation sitting around. Unfortunately I'm aware enough to realize that pay sites don't mean that you are immune to that either, just look at bondage and alt...they're worse.

The huge charm of CM to me is that it seems so non-commercial somehow.  There are no flashy, moving, sparkly ads, the layout is very straightforward, I don't have to pay to get in etc....  I realize that eventually, CM will have to up its ads, or make people pay, but whatever they do, I hope they stick with the current style of non-intrusiveness.

Actually, I should say, my CM window is not full screen, so the right side is cut off anyway.  I don't even see the graphic ads.  lol!

Yours,

benji

You can expect at some point it wil cease to be free,  when,  who knows.   The people who run these things need to make a living too

I brought this up in a previous thread, but I can't seem to find it. I really don't like that the pics list all of them as being in your local area when they aren't. I did discover, after logging in at a different location than normal, that the ads must detect your IP address and determine your location that way. I thought they may have gotten the regional information from CollarMe, but I was mistaken about that.

I'm a straight male, and I don't want to see all of those pics. I've seen my fair share of nudie pics. These aren't special and they just annoy me because, yes, these are just all about "do me." That's not what I'm looking for.

I have belonged to couple good sites that either were bought out or became paid membership. It seems every time you turn around you must pay to make contact with some when you already paid in the first place.  The problem with pay sites you keep seeing the same people post profiles and you pay for it with no real luck. I do not like that for when a site starts to dry up they go to pay site and when then I find it waste of my money to belong to the site. Why would I stay paying with no real luck in finding some one on that site? There was a great free site and one day it went down for maintenance then the next things it was sold. If this site goes to pay I will leaving for it does not pay to belong to it when you do not find some one worth for me to pay. If you keep getting players on the site is it worth it any more.

Here's an idea:  Want to keep CM free?  Click on the ads!  They'll think they're getting people from here, and CM can get more money.

Besides, if CM charges, say, $5 per month, but offers exactly what it offers now, a few ads off to the side, but everything else is free, there would be a number of advantages:

1 - People would think twice about creating a new profile to wreak havoc.  Not saying it wouldn't happen, but we'd have a bit less.

2 - People would stop bitching about the ads.  After all, we're just a normal paysite now.  We can have them.  A free site, on the other hand, cannot.  Ads are evil on a free site.

3 - People would stop speculating about how CM is free, and when we will start getting ripped off by having to pay for what we get.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm gonna go create a thread on how stupid it is that there are ads on TV.  And that I have to pay for food.  And how there are too many people who go to my gym.  I want only 18 year old hardbodies who like me there.

Wow.  You people sure are good at bitching about free things.

Yours,

benji

PS:  Maybe we should look at the fact that anyone with over 200 posts replied without really caring about it, where others were offended that someone could think of charging for this service.  Hm.

I'd have no problem paying a small stipend to collarme.. the forums alone are worth it.. and it's way cheaper than going out to a movie. ;)

If this site cost money, you'd see a lot of people disappear.

I agree with this to a point. I have a paid account on Live Journal because I like the extra features they have. The minimum cost for this is $5 every two months, max $25/ year. Why sites like Alt.com feel the need to charge you $30/month just so you can send messages is beyond me.

I think it may be a good idea to somehow restict the number of messages you can send with a free account and then charge a very modest fee with ads. $5 every two months for LJ doesn't break my bank. But I left Alt.com and Bondage.com because they charge too much.

CollarMe really is a wonderful, excellent site. It has everything: profiles for matching, e-mail, message boards, and chatrooms. Yes I've stuck to this site because it's free but worth more than that. However, I have enough bills already and I'm struggling, especially in post-Katrina southern Louisiana. I will not pay $25 - $40 / month for ANY site.

Probably, but I think a lot of the good people will stay if the cost is not high. However, having to pay $5.00 to join will prevent a lot of people from abusing the site.

I'm not sure if I would use the forums if I had to pay for them. When I first started looking for forums I joined another site and it was really frustrating not being able to post to all the forums until you paid a membership fee. I could see paying for a membership fee if I took advantage of the porn or whatever..but considering I was just there to contribute, I didnt like the idea of having to pay for the privilege...thats what prompted me to search for something free...and found this site. Yet now I'm hooked on this site, it would be a real dilemma for me if a fee was introduced...so I will sit on the fence on this one.,,and hope that the ads keep it free.

I agree.

I love this site and I love the forums, but because of my spotchy internet I don't have access all the time (I'm lucky if I can get online once a week, actually).  It really wouldn't be worth it to me to pay for the amount of time that I can see it now.  When I had access every day I would pay a reasonable fee in a heartbeat ($5 or so doesn't sound all that bad), but now it would hardly be worth it for me.
I would miss everyone (I know, I know, it's kind of pathetic that most of the people I enjoy hearing from are online), but I would survive.

The only ones that know that are the owners of the site. There is no way to tell either way if it will eventually go to pay or not. I would hope that the powers that be would figure out something reasonable as far as a price because I would really hate to have to leave.

There is still a way to donate $5 a month... I think they still take donations, or did they stop?

I won't pay, why? Because online hookup sites are only really good if you 1. are willing to move and / or travel to the other person, unless you are in a large city(I live smack dab in the middle of a large rural area). I just don't have the  time to travel 2-3 hours one way for a 5% chance that it would pan out. 2. So, since I've pretty much concluded this isn't going to be the proper venue for me to find anyone it makes no sense to pay for it. Currently I just use the forums really, and really the bdsm side of the forums are becoming less interesting, as all the threads have pretty much been discussed multiple times in my short time span here. I mean how many times is "define what it is to be a dominant" interesting? So, really I'd be just as content chatting it up on another free site.

I'd have no hard feelings if they charged, I just don't think it would be worth it in my current situation. For others it may be though.

Perhaps it would work if they only charged to send more than say, one message a day, but left the forums and chat alone. That might at least curb all the wankers sending people hundreds of silly e-mails, the scams, and the Russian chicks trying to find American husbands.

That would probably be a really good solution. Fully functionality, but limited to a set amount of message usage.
