Drug Warrior No More - Seattle's ex police chief now fights to end the war on drugs

It takes something when those at the front line call for an end

The United States imprisons more people than any other country, how much could your nation save by ending the war on drugs ?

masternoname -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/10/2011 6:00:47 AM)

How is the drug situation over in the UK?

Aneirin -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/10/2011 6:26:20 AM)

No idea, but then I see the US not Europe as more like us, so what happens in the US I am more interested in than Europe and that because what happens in the US Britain often closely follows. You lot lead the world, what you do impacts the world so all interest is on America whether you like it or not.

But with recent world leaders seeking a change to the stance on drugs, perhaps this guy mentioned above is right, especially so as he was in the front line and saw the damage the war on drugs caused and is causing to our societies.

Maybe we need to listen to those that have genuine real time experience, not the twats that know all but have no experience beyond what others tell them.

While it's nice that some are getting vocal about it, many more are of the same mind. Many parts of the east side here and some of the west, people happily pass a joint around on the front porch and the cops will just cruise right ny. Many more, when they catch someone with a small sack will just pour it out. A few will bust big dealers with like a couple of pounds, and some of the evidence disappears. The person is charged with a lesser offense because the amount was smaller. Nobody to my knowledge has been foolish enough to walk into court bitching that they were busted with three pounds, not a half pound.

A friend of a friend is an Ohio state trooper. I'm told that in a discussion the trooper said "Oh, I can't wait until I retire" which meant that he would love to burn one, but might be drug tested at any time due to his job.

For the most part cops are people. Some are real SOBs, others are not. Wonder why some people just walk on alot of minor offenses ? Because they treat the cops like human beings. They have alot of discertion to use, just get them to use it.

My family used to know quite a few cops. They were human beings and as such after seeing all the shit they see, many succumbed to emotional problems resulting in drug abuse, alcoholism, divorce and more than you may think - suicide. They had seen ENOUGH.

We'll probably see more of this, people in the front lines just having had enough. Reminds me of something John Lennon said - "What if they gave a war and nobody came". In fact desertion is a problem in the military, and it's supected that some desert by suicide. I doubt this is confined the the US military. In fact I'm sure it is not just the US military.

And that's what police forces are morphing into, military units. Few even know the distinction between a police officer and a peace officer. These days I'm not quite sure myself.......

I had to go to traffic school a couple of months ago (big surprise to those who know Me LOL).

One of the police presenters (20+ year vet) said: "I would 100 times rather deal with someone who has been smoking pot than someone who has been drinking"

Termyn8or -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/10/2011 6:48:50 AM)

Traffic school ? What did you do now ?

OK, so before I go out driving around I should burn one. Got it.

Speeding. An occasional $100 for traffic school is just the cost of doing business more efficiently. (I dont like to spend as much time in My car as others do for a trip of the same distance) [8D]

So you have no clue what is going on in your own backyard?

And yet feel qualified to tell us what to do. How fucking typical.

Well, you can see the police oficer's point, can't you? Whatever else you do in a car while you're spliffed up, it won't be speeding...

Yet we are an "arrogant lot" according to many who dont live here. [8|]

For some of us, arrogant is an understatement. If you think I'm bad, you should meet some of the people I've met. Some of them even put me on edge, and that's saying something.

My comment was in reference to all the complaining non-Americans do about the US being bullies and world police.

"My comment was in reference to all the complaining non-Americans do about the US being bullies and world police."

Yes, some of them have this silly notion that our jurisdiction should be within our borders. Where the hell did they get such an idea ?

tazzygirl -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/28/2011 7:38:10 AM)

No idea, especially when they keep asking for us to "help".

Moonhead -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/28/2011 7:44:46 AM)

What, like Iraq and Afghanistan did, you mean?

tazzygirl -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/28/2011 7:46:45 AM)

Nope, more like Libya. [;)]

Moonhead -> RE: Drug Warrror No More (6/28/2011 7:49:59 AM)

fair enough. I don't think the Libyan premier invited you in, either, though.
