Brain -> Study: 44 Million Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under GOP Plan‎ (6/11/2011 9:09:14 PM)

It's really astonishing how Republicans can support such a plan which would create a medical crisis and result in the death of so many millions of fellow Americans. The indifference and cold-heartedness boggles the mind. Amazing how they can lie so easily about what will really happen.

It would be irresponsible to pass this legislation.

Study: 44 Million Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under GOP Plan‎
BY: BETTY ANN BOWSER

A new study released Tuesday by two nonpartisan organizations added new fuel to the debate over debt and spending when the report found that debt reduction proposals by House Republicans lawmakers could leave up to 44 million more low-income and disabled Americans without health insurance. Currently, about 45 million Americans are uninsured.

Democrats in both the House and the Senate oppose his plan. President Obama has said he would veto any such measure if it comes to his desk.

The report also found that hospitals would also lose money under the Ryan plan. According to the study, federal government payments to facilities caring for Medicaid patients would drop by as much as 38 percent. That could total as much as $84 billion dollars by 2021 -- at a time when growing numbers of uninsured Americans would be going to the emergency room for treatment.

I see you missed the report from Medicare's chief actuary that showed that the Democrats plan of doing nothing will cause the entire system to collapse into a fiscal black hole and cause everyone currently on Medicare and Medicaid to lose their coverage. Better the GOP plan of scaling it back, than the alternative of blowing it up.

Hint: everyone will lose Medicare and Medicaid if there isnt reform, and soon.

In a survey of 1,300 employers, 30% said they definitely or probably will stop offering employee health insurance in 2014, when most provisions of the law go into effect. Among employers that say they know a lot about the reforms, more than 50% say they will find alternatives to employment-based health insurance.

Huh?

1. If you are uninsured currently, you get treated anyway.  So the costs of treating the uninsured are passed along to the insured in the form of higher payments.  The huge fuss over healthcare is preposterous because the Obama proposal makes the government liable for ensuring insurance while the current system simply makes the insured pay.  Neither one is good, but Obamacare is certainly no more socialist than the status quo.

2. Under the Ryan plan, the medical facilities get $84 billion less in 2021.  Another way to say this is that the federal government saves $84 bil.  That's a weird way to look at things - I don;t care if the facilities get paid more or less as long as people get treatment.  Defining treatment by how much gets spent is the wrong way to look at things - let's see if we can address runaway costs.

That's just fine let them drop it because the employer model doesn't work anymore. The solution is to do what Canada did which is Medicare for everyone regardless of age. That will reduce the budget deficit and you won't get better healthcare results for everyone.

It is if you believe in the myth of "single payer" as a remedy for anything. It still is amazing that libs don't believe one of their icons, Barney Frank, when he said "I think that if we get a good public option it could lead to single payer and that is the best way to reach single payer. Saying you’ll do nothing till you get single payer is a sure way never to get it. … I think the best way we’re going to get single payer, the only way, is to have a public option and demonstrate the strength of its power"

Obamacare left unchecked IS single payer.

That should be with everyone on Medicare there will be better results for everyone. Better healthcare outcomes for everyone and it will cost less money.

The Ryan plan isnt "scaling it back". It is to introduce competition to realize the inevitable cost savings that result.

It's not a myth. That's what Canada has and it works! You're either don't know what you're talking about or you're misleading.

Well when the GOP actually is ready to consider real reform perhaps they can get together with their Democratic brethren and come up with an honest to goodness attempt to do so.
Of course first they will have to disown and discard this ridiculous Ryan plan.

tazzygirl -> RE: Study: 44 Million Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under GOP Plan‎ (6/11/2011 10:25:42 PM)

I thought they had.

That's pretty dismissive.

Republicans would love to eliminate it, and this is no "fix."

EVERYONE knows it needs fixing...how is more problematic.

thishereboi -> RE: Study: 44 Million Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under GOP Plan‎ (6/12/2011 7:19:00 AM)

That is awful. I am sure the democrats have come up with something much better than that. So tell me, what did they come up with instead?

And you say this because CMS is doing such a great job with the people they have on now and adding the rest of the country is going to make them that much more efficient?

Musicmystery -> RE: Study: 44 Million Could Lose Medicaid Coverage Under GOP Plan‎ (6/12/2011 7:21:54 AM)

Universal health care, single payer--like every other industrial nation in the world has learned--would work for me.

Get health care off businesses' backs. It was a good idea, but for a different time.

ArizonaBossMan -> demos have the answers! (6/12/2011 7:22:26 AM)

yes yes, I really want to know! TAX THE RICH! oh yeah, that's right. Oh wait, I've never been hired by a poor person. Hmmm, ok ok, lets print more money! oh wait, then it has less value... hmmm... ok ok, I got it.. lets just do nothing, lie about Republicans who are trying to control spending and entitlements! yeah, more hopie and changie! yeah, that's it. Just bite the lower lip and show you care! Geezus, people. This is why in my real life I don't waste time arguing with leftists. Just defeat them. And still they spend their energy sifting through Palin emails. Where was the research on obama care? And a million other nonsensical things this dingbat has done? HMMMM???
