CaHeaven -> Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 6:56:24 PM)

I am on a (vanilla) list for a group of people that do secret gift exchanges. Normally, it's easy. This time, oops, no clue what to buy.

The woman lists that she is "into goth, vampires and chocolate". (okay she got the last right)

I need gift ideas for a woman who enjoys goth stuff, and when it comes to buying goth anything, I am a virgin aka clueless. (Wow, I haven't been able to claim I was a virgin since I lost it at, no sorry, I digress!)

Gift limit is $25 and generally we include several small things in a box. Pirates, no worries. Hello kitty, got it covered. Vampires? Goth? Where do I find this stuff? She loves True Blood and Twilight but already has the books. Any suggestions for this very un-gothic country girl?

Oh gosh, that's super easy!

Goths love things in dark colors, so black, red, deep purples and blues will work.  Most goths like silver or pewter tones too.  Depending on her tastes, you could get something with a Victorian or Renaissance feel.  Candles are almost always safe as are gargoyles, skulls and other assorted Halloween motifs.

I recommend you get on Etsy.com and search for things tagged with "Goth" or "Gothic".  You will pull up literally thousands of options.

Showing your age here.

Anyways seeing as you listed what she's into, just go to Hot Topic.  Most people mess up what a goth lifestyle is, so you're not the first.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:18:59 PM)

Hot Topic hasn't been goth in years.  What rock have you been living under?  I have no way of knowing if the girl is into Cybergoth, Steampunk, Industrial or Pixie goth.  I'm suggesting things that are classic, safe and easy to find.

How much time do you have:

If she is into True Blood, Twilight, they have memorabilia for those sorts of things.

Or you could just get some sort of chocolate.

Here is something that might make her smile for the simple fact that you were paying attention]

Vampire Chocolate

another site that sells all sorts of stuff

If you're into the "commercial goth" as I like to call it, you can find something very "moody" at Hot Topic which looking at what this person is interested in would fit the bill just fine.

Right now this girl is more than likely going through a phase.  No need to buy anything expensive like a Victorian-style dress when you can get a t-shirt or something for a much more affordable price and will actually see practical use.

It is a gift exchange, with a 25 dollar limit, and we have no idea how old this person is

Even better to go to Hot Topic then.  Convenient, easier to find something vaguely "goth," and you may meet some hot punk-rock chick.

Who said anything about a Victorian dress?  On Etsy, you can find Victorian style jewelry, decorative soaps, lace hand fans and more.  With a $25 limit, some candles or decorative soaps are a good choice.  Plus, most Etsy products are hand made so buying from there supports small businesses.

If somebody bought me candles, I'd be pissed.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:34:54 PM)

Yes, but lots of women like candles.  The gift is for a woman.  You do the math.

littlewonder -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:36:36 PM)

Twilight? Stuff like Twilight...yeah, Hot Topic...easy enough. You'll find all kinds of things like that there.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:37:30 PM)

Candles will see little use.  Give them a damn gift, not a dust collector.

I've heard good things about that site. Some of my friends make stuff and sell it on there, and buy it too

how old is she? if she's not a rabid twilight fan girl, she may not want a "team edward" tote bag =p
a lot of the gothy girls i know like black laces, black roses, either of those things combined with the colors in Sylvere's post. =p pewter and victorian stuff tends to be what i go with (heck, i like that stuff, too =p)
when you observe her at work, what does she often wear? necklaces or other jewelry? if you get something that you know she will already use, you're ahead of the game.
a lot of my friends give me hair flowers, for instance, because it's one thing people usually KNOW i like, since i wear flowers in my hair all the bloody time.  that or eyeshadow. =p haha

hot topic hasn't been technically "goth" but they still have some stuff that gothic people may like.
etsy is a WONDERFUL place to look -- there are some fantastic things to find there.

Some of my friends sell stuff there too.  One of them makes a pretty significant second income.  I've been happy with the purchases I've made so far.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:43:59 PM)

i sold a couple of belly dance costume pieces i made there; it's a very cool little site. =) cheap listing and sales fees, and you're supporting independent, hand-made enterprises. ^_^

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Help! Need goth gifts (6/13/2011 7:46:05 PM)

I got my crin falls from the Ikickshins store there.  They're gorgeous.  [:D]
