Friendships, be they in person or online/phone, come and go.  Some friendships last a  lifetime and others only last for a time and then fade off.  In any case, people can touch each others lives while never having met.  I've made some really great connections with people I've never personally met but would like to.  Just like in person, some people come into our worlds, touch our lives and move on.  Sometimes we feel them moving on and other times they just decide to go.  Instead of grieving their disappearance, I am grateful for what their presence offered me.

Plus, as others have said, sometimes people leave an online forum but remain in touch by other means, with the friends they've made here.

I recently butted into a thread celebrating the birthday of a much loved member of CM. As usual I was probably a bit blunt...

Why, and why?

Why butt in and why did you need to be "blunt".

Since it didn't concern you at all, why make an unwelcomed appearance, and if you had to make an appearance, why couldn't you at the very least, be polite?

These people all talk trash behind eachother's backs and put on this grand fake impression to one another that even through text makes me want to shudder in how plastic it is.

The online friendship thing has been covered by my... well, my friends... so I have nothing more to contribute about that.

However, this part above...

I find that there are in fact people who do that.  But my experience of meeting quite a number of people here tells me this - people on the boards are GENERALLY how they are in real life.  If they talk trash in real life, they are pretty quickly recognized as such here.  In real life, I'm a predominantly happy gal with a touch of arrogance and high falutin intellectualism who likes to flirt with everybody.  I like most people ... there are a few exceptions - victims, drama llamas, and know-it-alls.  You'll find that's how I post.  I'm cool with that.  Some people like it, some don't.

We can still enjoy jerks, enjoy their humor, and we can even listen to the advice they dispense.  It could be good advice.  Heck, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

You know, people have reasons they leave and come back... or don't come back.  It's none of my dang business.    Nor is it yours unless that person and you make it so together.

best wishes,
sunshine

Angelika Makes and EXCELLENT point. I read the thread and frankly sir, if I pick my lance up in a thread most of the time you'd be wishing fro 'blunt'. But I GOT that this was everyone's friend, and I haven't made the fella's online acquaintance. And since this was a simple matter of warm greetings for a close friend to many. I read it, respected it and DID NOT POST.
You on the other hand did, and instead of offering them a heart felt apology, you're giving us some analysis of what is wrong with us basically.
Ever wonder if the issue might be yours? I may bust some serious balls around here, but I  think every woman and every gentlemanly type knows what I am. And it an obtuse rudenick. And for all your "Oh, I get it"s. Had I pulled what you did. I'd just say "Gee folks, I was out of line and I am sorry". Would have scored you a lot more points and credibility than this thread.

edited to take the R out of "gee"... I sat on a pier waiting for an 1100lb mako to be delivered, sue me.

Balls.  When you type something out you know full well you mean what you say as opposed to "speaking without thinking" that people out in public do.  So anybody that apologizes for something such as questioning a topic when a mass of people have become offended is just being a lapdog and nothing more.

if a "mass of people" speak out against a certain person (ns), perhaps that person should take a look at themself and wonder WHY so many find them objectionable....

Then you realize that the rest of society views you as normal and only people that are obsessed with cats and fantasy books detest you.

Ive been online for almost 15 years and we held get togethers where people flew in from england, all over the US and canada to meet up at niagara falls, two years in a row, Ive met more in Long Island, New york, DC., Detroit, Toronto and St Louis.
My relationship with my partner is 13 years and still going the way we want it, my friendships over those years are still going strong wth about 20 people that I speak to often.
One of my friends is in Johannesberg and we talk at least once a week, and on facebook more often, Ive never met her but we have been close for 15 years, she is coming to canada next year to get together with my family, I talk to her more than I do with my cousins.
And when I get home again I will be meeting up with more than a few people from CM too
I cant wait
Online , take it or leave it, but theres no need to bust peoples chops because of it.
