I fear you're exaggerating there: the occupation of Iraq is a bargain next to the insane amounts that were pissed away on the moonshots alone.

sigghhh. Another one who is so wrong so often. The benefits are paid from insurance premiums paid by companies, not the taxpayers.

The final cost of project Apollo was reported to Congress as $25.4 billion in 1973.

In 2009, NASA presented an estimate of the Apollo program costs in 2005 dollars as roughly $170 billion

Cost of invasion and occupation of Iraq. $795 billion.

Back of the napkin estimates say we could run 4 Apollo programs for what we paid for Iraq.
